Any idea if what I'm looking for exists. Still digital camera equipped with: 8 to 12 X zoom, viewfinder, image stabelizer, compact for pocket convenience, LCD that swivels or allows overhead shots. I can find 4 out of the 5. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

4 out of 5 is not bad with what you are asking everything but the pocket size would be easy i suggest you look at the canon powershot series also the IS series might be what you're looking for
good luck

Thanks wimster.
I have been looking at the Canon S3 IS which has everything but the size, also the Lumix TZ1 which has everything but the viewfinder.
Love the idea of the Nikon S4, but no viewfinder or IS.
Going to Italy in Octiober so I still have some time. Worst case scenerio, I'll continue using my Pentax Optio330GS which actually does a good job even thouigh limited to 3X zoom. Just thought someone might spot something I've missed.

One thing that I found very useful is a wide angle lens. I have a Canon Pro1 with has an equivalent 28mm - 200mm lens. I would have to say that 95% of my shots were at 28mm. Much of the architecture is very close and boxed in that I didn't find the zoom portion of my lens necessary. But the wide angle was extremely useful.

Just something to think about.

A friend of mine just told me about a new camera by Panasonic. It's the TZ1.It will fit in your pocket, has a 10x zoom, and image stabilization. Don't know about your other 2 requirements, but doubt that it has a swivel lens. I myself have a Sony H-1 and I love it. It's a little bulky, but not heavy.

I have just been reading about the new Hasselblad Digital H3D.

It takes at 39 mexapixels and stores pictures in raw format at 80 MByte per picture.

It retails here at 1.59 Million Baht, about 22,800 GBP or US$45,000. I've included it in my list to Santa, but I don't believe that I have been good enough this year.

Chris, this could be the ultimate gadget.

Efcee,
When I was on a tour of Britain in 2005 and Ireland in May 2006, I had my 4 year old Canon S30 with me. it was a great little camera and got some great photos. Returning from Ireland, I decided it was time to upgrade and I bought a Canon S3 IS. The S3 IS is an excellent camera and has everything I wanted in a camera, however, it is larger then the S30 and requires a larger carrying case to hold both the camera and an extra set of batteries. It is a little to bulky for my liking and in hindsight I should have put importance on the size and weight.

The Canon S3 is a pretty nice camera. You could also consider the Canon A640, it doesn't have image stabilization, but it takes AA batteries and that makes life a bit easier when traveling. Or you could go to a Canon Digital Elph, something like the SD800 IS, but it doesn't have a tilt screen.
