I'm leaving in a ew weeks Italy,London,Amsterdam. I've been reading in a few posts about concerns regarding the airport scanners and storage devices. I am using an epson P2000 several cards and a 2g microdrive. Has anyone had problems with any such equiptment and airport scanners. thanks
I agree with Chris, no problems with airport scanners or x-ray machines. I took an ipod, a portable hard drive, lots of memory cards and didn't have a single problem with the scanners at the airport. I did carry it with me (did not check it).

Just don't put any memory cards into your luggage that goes into the aircraft belly. Those items are subject to a much higher dosage of x-rays and it will wipe anything that is stored on a memory device, even destroy it! Thousands of USB flash drives are destroyed that way every year!

Nico - I would suggest that the information provided on that site, is inaccurate. It is probably just an urban myth. Nevertheless I would always carry cards with me, as occasionally checked in baggage goes missing.

Nico,
Although it is certainly true that checked baggage receives higher energy X-rays than hand-scanned bags do, I seriously doubt that it is anywhere near intense enough to "wipe" flash memory devices. I have travelled innumerable times with flash memory media in my suitcase, and never one has anything suffered any ill-effects.
