Many thanks to every one for helping me to purchase a camera. I really had no idea. Went to a couple of stores and surged the internet.

The Canon Powershot S1 IS seemed a little bit too big and too sophisticated for me.Price was about US$ 499

I bought the Powershot S 410 digital ELPH for US$ 399 and a CF Card with 256 MB I think I may have to purchses an additional Lithium Batterie.

There is a lot to learn, however, I have enough time before our trip to Scandinavia.

Regarding digital cameras... I have worked with the tourist industry reading, burning digital photos to CD & printing some of the pictures taken for the last 3-4 years. Of all the photos I have seen, there are 4 brands of camera that give consistently good photos and 2 that give consistently bad photos. The good ones are Minolta, Canon, Fugi, & Olympus, in that order. The 2 bad ones seem to be Kodak and Sony, which would come first equal!! I personally have a Canon A80 and find that excellent. Once again, I think it comes down to personal preference and personal finance.

I've bought and used many different digital cameras over the years. My recommendation has always been Canon

My new digital camera - Kodak Easy Share 4 mp does too have white balance and the zoom is 3X optical and 4X digital. I have not had the camera for very long but it seems to fill the bill for me -
