I was just reading the thread about the life of memory cards and was interested to read that I should reformat my memory card each time I transfer the photos to my computer. I have only just transferred to digital and would have just deleted them... Why is reformatting better?

Gold Coast Girl - reformatting removes all the clutter from the card, so you end up with a clean slate.

Thanks Steve! Lucky I read the thread or I would have been none the wiser! I have learnt so much about using/caring for my new camera just by reading this site. Thanks to everyone for their helpful information
P.S I ended up buying 3 2GB SD cards from Ted's online at a very reasonable price. Hopefully this will be enough, as I plan on taking heapsof photos in Italy. |

Should be plenty G.C.G. - if it's not they are readily available in Italy, I am sure.

I have to agree with Steve, reformatting through your digital camera is the way to go. Never delete the memory card through your computer.
As far as having enough memory, I do not advocate going through your photos through the LCD screen to determine which ones to keep, but you can go through them to delete the obvious bad ones that have no hope of being fixed, that should help clear up some more space for you. |

I am new to digital photography myself and didn't know this. Thanks.
I am about to embark on my next tour (France) and will be taking two 2GB memory cards and two lithium rechargeable batteries. I think I'm all set. I believe I only need the plug adaptor for my camera chargor. It says 100-240V on it so I should not need a voltage converter. Am I correct? Yes, you are correct - all you will need is the little adapter to make your plug fit into a European socket, which you probably already have.

Yes, indeed I do. I need it for my hair appliances.
Thanks Steve. Jeannie A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour. |
