What is the best way to bring film through airport security so the film isn't damaged by X-Ray?
Thanks, Jeanne |

There was a discussion about whether to use a lead lined film bag to carry films through the x-rays at the airport or not.
http://www.trafbb.com/cgi/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=9&t=000025 I always keep my films in my carry-on bag. Both 400 and 200 speed films were fine on our Real Italy trip in February this year. I remember some posts saying anything beyond 800 speed may have problem even with low intensity x-rays used in carry-on baggage inspection at the airports. |

I read in a recent Frommer's newletter (letters to the editor) that someone had several rolls of film ruined by taking it through the x-ray at the security check, even though the sign said film up to 800 would not be harmed. This person had film with speeds of 200 and 400 if I remember correctly. Now I am thinking maybe I should get a lead bag after all.

We kept all our film in a zip lock bag remove from there respective boxes, and the canisters labled to speed and capacity, using dots to indicate used film. We showed them to the person operating the metal detectors and then put them into the lead bag with their knowledgebefore sending them through the metal detectors.
