I know this is a travel BB but I got off the 31 day Great European last year with TT. Had a ball and would recommend it to anyone. However, this was the first time I used my new Sony DSC P3 and all the daylight and even the flash shots came out darker than usual. We took 1,400 pictures during this month long tour and the ones I printed out all had to be lightened up manually. Anyone have a similar problem?
Thanks John N for allowing me to post this one.

Maril:
Haven't had the problem with my DSC707 but check:
1) is your ISO set to automatic?
2) is your exposure compensation setting set to 0?
3) is your focus set to multi?
4) is your mode set to program?
5) were you using any filters?
6) were the images dark on screen before you printed them?
7) Did you print them yourself? If so, what software, what printer, what paper?

As you can guess, there is no easy answer.

Thanks for the reply.
here are my settings:
EV set toEV
Focus set to Auto
White Balance set to Auto
Spot Meter set to off
ISO changed to auto (was 400)
P Quality set to standard
Mode is Normal
Flash level set to High
P. Effect set to Off (what's this?)
Sharpness set to 0

The only thing I changed was the ISO which was set to 400 and you recommended set to AUTO.
I print my own pics on a Canon Ink Jet S630 and use Kodak paper. I don't use any filters. And, the images ARE dark on the screen right after I take the picture.
Don't think I have these settings:

2) is your exposure compensation setting set to 0?
3) is your focus set to multi?
4) is your mode set to program?

I use the Paint Shop Pro 7 program
Any and all info you can pass along sure would be a help. Like I said, on our recent TT trip, we took 1,400 pictures.
thanks again

Sorry to but in, but have you tried adjusting Auto levels on your processing software?
Sometimes that's enough to do the trick. It was probably your white balance I think. If you had it set to Auto, it may not be working right.

Ok, I check the specs on your camera at Sony.

You do have an exposure compensensation function-it is the EV+-. Your standard focus is multi. Your camera has a program mode-it's also the standard setting.

Do your photos look dark when you pull them into your software? Do they look dark on the LCD screen on the back of the camera (check in a dark room).

Be sure your EV is set to 0 (check your owners manual for the location of the button that sets this). If this doesn't help and your images are dark on the LCD and in your software, call Sony technical help. You may have a problem that requires a repair.

Morning Glenn
I rechecked all of my settings. Could it be my flash setting is not set correctly?

Do your photos look dark when you pull them into your software? Do they look dark on the LCD screen on the back of the camera (check in a dark room).
YES, THE LOOK DARK ON THE READOUT SCREEN ON THE CAMERA AND ALSO WHEN I PUT THEM ONTO THE COMPUTER.

Be sure your EV is set to 0 (check your owners manual for the location of the button that sets this). If this doesn't help and your images are dark on the LCD and in your software, call Sony technical help. You may have a problem that requires a repair.
I HAVE SET THE EV TO 0 AND IT DOESNT SEEM TO HELP

JUST DONT KNOW WHAT I AM DOING WRONG.
One other thing Glenn, when I take pics at the highest setting, they are quite a large file which I understand. It comes up at about 26 inches by 23 inches on the screem so always have to resize them. This is normal, right?
thanks

Maril,

As to your last question, yes, this is usual because your software assumes a density of 72 dots per inch (dpi): this comes from the density of television sets (and old time monitors) of 72 dpi.

Use your software to resize to 200-300 dpi (which makes a huge file) and resize dimensions to your preferred size-I use 1280 by 960 @ 200 dpi-makes for a better 8.5X11.

Call Sony-your camera is not working correctly.
