I don't remember either, (2007) I took just a couple of pictures of the entrance and a building or two, there was a group of students from Israel, with a flag, it did seem appropriate to take a picture of them, I will never forget it.

It is an experience I never want to forget, yet I have been criticized for going. Perhaps if more saw the dreadful effects they may learn something. It is now mandatory for every German school child to visit Auschwitz.

All German schoolchildren vist a concentration camp - not necessarily Auschwitz. I'll never forget my visit to Dachau concentration camp, which is just outside Munich. It truly is an unforgettable experience. Almost everyone on the tour chose to go there, and I think that everyone was glad that they did, although it was a very subdued coach on the drive back to Munich.

We got shown a film about the concentration camps at Dachau - do they do that at Auschwitz?

Why would anyone criticize you for going? I think that personally it's the kind of place that everyone should be required to visit.

We visited Auschwitz & Birkenau (sp?) & yes it was a subdued coach coming back. We got caught in a major traffic jam & some of us got off the coach & walked the rest of the way by foot, it made me feel better to be out walking. On the coach I felt like I was going to choke my chest felt so heavy & I felt oppressed.

This is what has actually been said to me: 'Why go there? bad enough it happened without visiting' & 'What a downer to visit while on holiday'. Several on the TT did not take the optional because they thought it too depressing. Ah well it takes all types!

Yes, Chris, they do show a film in Auschwitz, although, during our H of EE tour the TD did not allow enough time, there were many school children to view the film and we did not have the chance.

Most of the showings of it at Dachau were (obviously) in German. Our TD had arranged in advanced for the English version to be screened for us. It was very moving.

I suspect our TD forgot to make the arrangements, he was a little disorganized, many were upset, but overall I think, we, old people have seen it all before on some many documentaries. We did not have that much time in Auschwitz, and it was not an optional, it was a travel day between Krakow and Warsaw, so everybody went.

I took photos in parts of Auschwitz when I was there in 2006, but there were some parts (inside some of the buildings) that you weren't meant to take pics of. I got told off in one building by a guide with another group! I was about to take a pic of a display, but I hadn't seen any signs around saying NOT to take pics & I certainly hadn't heard our guide mention no pics in that area. Another building we went thru had a no photos sign in it.
