I keep reading these posts about 35 MM cameras... Would a Cannon PowerShot SD600 do just fine in England? I am concerned about getting the best pictures out of my trip as possible, but I also hate bringing my 35 MM camera anywhere for extended periods. All the lenses to lug around...
And also, what size memory card would someone suggest for a 2 week trip to the UK? |

I have the Canon SD700IS and would not hesitate to bring it as my only camera on any trip. However, it does have the IS feature (Image Stabilization)..... a requirement for blur-free low light , non flash photos ....churches, museums, night landscapes,etc... I'd estimate a 90 percent success rate for such photos with no blur due to image shake... (moderate to fast action not freezed though). I love being able to hide this ultra compact in a pocket or even in my hand and not draw attention to myself as a tourist. Since the SD600 does not have IS , I would only consider it , if I had no plans to take any low light photos.
I hope you find this helpful. bruce |

I have a Canon SD800 IS and a Canon 20D...
It really depends on what you plan on doing with your photos when you're done. Are you printing them or just putting them into a digital scrapbook? Your Canon SD600 is a 6 megapixel camera, so you should be able to get a decent 5 x 7 print out of it if you have it set on the highest setting... What size memory card for 2 weeks? Again... depends on how many photos you plan on taking and what you intend on doing with them when you get them home... At the minimum, I'd suggest at least two 1 GB SD cards. When I was in the UK last year, I took over 6000 photos with my Canon 20D...something like 200 shots (keepers) a day. How many photos you take depends on how keen you are for photography... In general though, a Canon SD600 with two 1 GB cards is perfectly acceptable for a 2 week trip, but don't be surprised if you want to shoot more because it's digital. It's pretty easy these days to find a shop in England that will burn your SD card to CD for you, so you'd be able to fill a card, get it burned to CD and then fill your card again. |
