I may have spelled that wrong.
When I look at the Picassa site, it looks quite interesting and it's probably just what I need. Right now all my photos are in Kodak Easyshare and it isn't as easy as they claim, but my question is: The Picassa site says it will help you organize all your picture and so forth, but will they actually be moved from Kodak Easyshare? Will I still have those folders, or will they be actually gone? Also, when a picture is too big, what does that really mean? Is it a pixel thing? Is it a setting from the camera? I was on a hike with a friend and her pictures from her digital downloaded on the TT site in a second, yet mine would not at all (too large) If I set my camera to a lower, ummm, number, will that make them small enough? Sorry for my ignorance, but I just can't get my mind around this digital thing, I need a "Dummies" book I think. Shannon The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time. |

Shannon - I am no expert in things digital but I am reasonably familiar with Picasa. It is a nice...and simple program which saves all your pictures no matter where they are located on your hard drive. I too have Kodak Easy Share for most of my pictures and they are all available on Picasa. I recently bought a Canon camera and loaded their software onto my computer and those pictures are available on Picasa as well. Have fun with the various editing tools which are available and I find it simpler than the Kodak program.

Shannon: I have Picassa and also ACDSee, both excellent programs. I think Picassa is a little easier to run, but my husband swears by the other for more comprehensive editing functions but he does a lot more of playing around with images than I do. If an image is large it is I believe the number of pixels so one has to reduce the number of pixels but there are others here with much more knowledge than I have in this area and I'm hoping they'll come and enlighten us all

Judy~ I can't believe how fast Picassa downloaded, and how fun it seems to be!
Penny~ you said that was what you used for the China picture? I'll see if I can "shrink" something that wouldn't work before, and post it. Shannon The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time. |

My camera has settings (as I assume they all do) from 3.2 up to 7.2. So, do you think if I set it for a lower number then the pictures would just download to the TT board without me having to adjust them? Shannon The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time. |

sdkelly2000,
The trouble with setting lower pixels in the camera comes when you want to print. It is usually better to have all the pixels you can, as that determines the details. You would be better off reducing the pixels on a copy of the photo; that way the original photo will have all the pixels if you want to print. Yes I used Picasa for the photos of taxis in China. I don't understand the mechanics of what it does, however this is what I found ( I think 1. It sorted all my photos from all over the computer into the picasa file, but I still have my original folders/photos under the title "my pictures" as well. 2. When I followed SteveH's instructions it worked for me after a few attempts. 3. I played a round a little with determining the size of the photo. If you hold the cursor over the photo, after you have reduced it, a small yellowish message will appear telling you how big the photo is after the reduction. In the end after experimenting a little, the photos of the taxis in China were 52.3 KB, what ever that means. They were huge before that...9 something from memory, maybe 9000. Can't remember, however I wasn't able to upload the original to the BB. 4. Picasa made an additional file for the reduced photo and then I had to nominate which folder to place it in. In my case I put it in "My Documents" as it would stand out, rather than try searching for it in "my pictures". Then when I uploaded this reduced photo I had to go to the newly saved document in "My Documents" and follow the instructions. 5. For a techno peasant, I thought I did pretty good. Thanks Steve. Have fun Shannon. It adds a dimension to answering questions doesn't it. Now we can just show the answer through photos. Life is better on a bike. |

Wow, I LOVE it! Thanks so much Penny and Judy for informing me of Picassa. It even posts directly to my blog, and it's all so organized and speedy. I might have to book a day off work to stay home and "play". It's perfect for someone with such limited capabilities as myself.
