I have been having a play with faces to try an find an effect.

I have Digital Image but maybe there is something similar on Photoshop ~ in the effects section under filters there is a effect called jaggy glass when I selected the face area and applied the filter/effect is came out similar to if someone was looking through a fogged glass window - colour and shape retained.

This gave the best effect - not brilliant but best on a quick test.

Hopefully in Photoshop there is something similar.

Good luck Smiler

I agree on the "commendable" part, however my point is more on the "not required" front.

In today's world, if one volunteers to have their picture taken in any social gathering (especially with people one has known for a very short duration), it is quite reasonable to assume the chances of that picture finding its way onto some photo sharing site, are VERY high.

I agree that some people are not comfortable with their pictures propping up on the web (for whatever reason) and one can request the photographer to not do so. But I feel that in this digital age, the onus should be on the subject to exclude themselves from the picture.

Don't feel that you have hijacked the thread, your comments fit perfectly. However, I don't agree with you that someone having their picture taken in a social gathering should assume that it might find it's way to the web. Perhaps it's just that I am of an older and, lets face it, less technically inclined generation but it would not have occurred to me that the chances of the pic showing up on the web are VERY high. You are probably correct, but I'm surprised. I would allow a tour mate to take a picture of me, but I wouldn't want it appearing on the web without my permission. I don't really count unfocused shots of people that show up on my pics of Leaning Tower as Dimpz mentioned. I'm not sure that I haven't posted pictures like that myself.
My one shot I don't think will look good with the face blurred. It was posed but I still wouldn't post it without her permission. I did promise to send her a copy and will ask permission. In the other, the face is unimportant and blurring it by one of these methods should work well.
Appreciated your comments and thank for the links.

Great advice, thank you. Smiler

Ooops I missed a vital step out - you will need to import the modified image back to Picasa (take note of where you saved the modified version, then do an import from folder), then select your modified image and export it as a 800 x 600 image, with automatic image quality and you should be OK!

I, too, am confused at this stage, but it is not too difficult. If you need step by step instructions, please ask.

Too true Dumpz! Big Grin

Anyway - it is all logical, it is easy to do, but not obvious to the casual observer.

Meanwhile if you want a free image manipulating program - do a search on 'gimp' - it is open source (free) software.

BTT - Thanks for your advice. Unfortunately I can't even find "open with". I think this whole thing is beyond me. I'm going to do it the easy way, by having one of my more computer literate children do it for me. Big Grin

At least with everyone's help I now know that it can be done.

LOL to me it is like a foreign language & I am far too lazy to attempt to conquer it. That is what comes of having a (very) computer savvy husband. Wink Smiler

LTT ~ How wise of you to find something useful the children can come in handy for. Smiler

luvtotravel - I totally understand - if I was standing behind you I could tell you what to do - however it is very difficult to advise via the written word. Smiler

However, don't give up - we have all had trouble with new software, but a bit of trial and error and reading help files will normally do the trick. Smiler
