I will be using my Sony camera with floppy discs. Can I scan the discs at the airport or do I need to hand them to the screeners? Can someone tell me? Thanks.

We have a Sony camera that uses memory sticks, and when I inquired, I was told by Sony that there was no problem with them going through xray.

Thanks for the reply. Guess I know that the memory cards and sticks are no problem when going through the scanners but how about the floppy discs? Thanks.

Floppies are magnetic media & X-Rays should not hurt them at normal scanning dosages. At my work, our stuff passes through X-ray scanners every day and I've never heard of anyone having any problems. Including people who used to take their laptops in and out. Some people have PDAs which have similar types of memory storage and I've never heard of any problems from them. Since your camera is valuable and you will have it with you, it would not get the higher dosages that your checked luggage would get. You should have no problems. (heat is a much greater problem so don't leave it in an enclosed space such as a vehicle while you are out).
