To all of you computer/digital camera people, I have a question.
As most (I assume) digital cameras come with their own software, why do I also have the exact same pictures on my computer's "My Pictures". Doesn't this use up a lot of my computer's memory? Can I delete the pictures in the My Pictures and keep them just on my digital camera's program? Would I still be able to manipulate the photos - e mail, etc. them?
Thanks

Hi, Yes, you can do that but I would keep all of my pics on a CD, simply because your computer might crash and you'll lose all your data. You also can open a new folder in "Documents" and transfer your pictures in that file and "get rid" of the pictures in your camera program and My Pictures.

Not knowing your camera software, I'd be wary of advising you to delete photo's in the MY Pictures directory - it may be where the camera software STORES the photos.
What you could do is do a search for a known picture filename & see if its stored twice.

Storing stuff twice isn't too much problem anyway.
Losing photos is!!!

OK-Let's make sure we are talking about the same things.

Most digital cameras have little or no internal memory: just a place to store your image while it writes your image to the camera's MEMORY CARD.

The images stored in your PC's "My Pictures" folder have come from the memory card. I presume you have hooked a cable from your camera to your PC to make the transfer.

Once you have made this transfer, you can (and should) empty the memory card by executing a FORMAT command. This cleans out the memory card and you are ready for more images. If you don't do this, you will eventually run out of memory space and the camera will stop recording images.

Delete only the images from "My Pictures" that you don't like and don't want to keep. As these images accumulate, copy them to a cd or dvd: then you can cull the images in My Pictures.

Hope this helps.
