"Cat...why not use a laptop and a digital overhead projector?"

Good question!

I have two laptops and no digital projector.

So far I am still waiting for the prices to drop a little lower before I buy. When I buy one, it will be a good expensive one. Then I would have to convert all those slides. Smiler

Soon....

Hi Clare, it doesn't sound like you need to take the film camera. Just get confident with the digital and you should have no problems.

If something ever did happen to the digital (heaven forbid) then don't forget you could always buy a $20 film point and shoot at any camera store and almost any supermarket. There's also the one time use cameras. The Kodak Panorama one time use camera has the best picture quality of any disposable camera and will beat most point and shoots at wide angle photography. It has a multi-element lens and a curved film plane to correct focus and distortion. A really clever little design but they're not stocked everywhere.

Disposable cameras are also great for places you don't really want to take a good camera. Jet boat rides, bungee jumping, that sort of thing.

Chris.

That's a great idea actually!! - about the Kodak Panorama disposable camera. Thanks Chris!! Smiler I'll have a look around & see if I can find one!
cheers,
ClareS

I don't have any film at the moment that I need to use up, so if I did take the film camera as well, I'd need to get some film to take. hmmm... will it fit in with the kitchen sink she ponders! Smiler
cheers,

Clare, I honestly don't know for sure. I would have spoken with my sons, asking their advice. They both would have said, "leave the film camera at home", so I probably would have just taken the digital. I do like my Olympus 35mm though. It takes really great pics and I'm a really crappy photographer. Smiler

Excellent! Smiler

You are looking for a KODAK FUN SAVER Panoramic 35 Camera as far as I know they are still making them. It has a very wide angle lens and shoots wider than normal negatives. Kodak labs should be able to print them, and probably sell the cameras too. They are highly sought after cameras - people are reloading them with their own film and using them like a normal re-usable camera.

Hi Chris,
I had a look around the other day, & I saw a Kodak Funsaver disposable camera but it didn't say anything about it being panoramic.

I did see a Fuji panorama disposable camera though. The only Kodak disposable camera I saw was the Advantix which had 2 formats: 4x7 or panorama format & it used APS film rather than 35mm film in it.

However, I think my dig camera zoom starts at 35mm & it does have a panorama option. So I'm still tossing up whether to go for the waterproof "Sport" one or not.

There's even a disposable Zoom camera with flash now! As well as the compact & ultra-compact kodak disposables. Not sure what the diff is between those - they seem similar size.
Smiler
cheers,
ClareS

I love it, Scottie, that you love it so. It is brilliant. My husband just got a new digital and bequeathed me his for my own pleasure. It's a couple of years old but it's the first time since I was a teenager almost I've had my very own--zoom lens an' all. He's practising like mad with his in order to be ready for October, because it's a bit complicated with all it does, but I've already told him he's not to spend the whole trip with his eye glued to a bloomin' viewfinder. But, digitals are great aren't they? Smiler Oops, in the wrong place but you know what I was responding to, don't you Big Grin

Scottie: I'm having such a good time with the camera, practising, deleting, etc. Now I just have to learn to link them up to my computer--that's the next step. I have the program and the cable, just need the nerve Smiler.

Hi ClareS,
It looks like the Kodak Panorama one time use camera was replaced by the Advantix dual format.

The Fuji Panorama camera looks like a copy of the original Kodak Panorama and also shoots a wider than normal negative which is why you only get 15 shots on the roll. Either of these cameras would be a good option but you'd need to find a lab than can handle the odd size negatives. I think I'll try to take a couple of these with me as well, or buy them in London (might be a better option with the current security measures).

The problem with a 35mm (equivalent) lens is that it's not actually very wide but it is what you get with most digitals. You can buy an extra wide angle adapter for most cameras which will get you to about 28mm equivalent. Digitals that do go to about 28mm wide angle won't work well with a wide angle adapter so there's no point buying one to try to go even wider. Unless it's specifically made to work with that camera you'll just get a distorted view with some heavy vignetting on the corners.

I have a 28mm lens for my SLR, a wide angle adapter for my digital, and I'm _still_ considering picking up a couple of those panorama disposable cameras. Most panorama options on cameras simply crop the top and bottom of the image, but these actually use a wider piece of negative for each frame.

Chris.
