I am looking for a new camera and have looked at the Canon Powershot S3. It has all the features I want. But I have heard Canon are bringing out an S5. I cant find anything about them as they have not been released in Australia yet. Does anyone know the difference between these 2 cameras please? Should I wait for the new model?
Also looked at the Canon Powershot TX1 such a lovely little camera but it does not have a view finder, but has everything else I want. Would I be sorry if I gat a camera without a view finder? Thanks for your help.

BOOF: Here are my thoughts on the S5.

Apart from the 2MP and the marginally larger LCD, it does not seem to have any significant advantages. The sensor size is the same and by increasing the MP, its prone to more noise.

For the slightly more serious photographer, it has the added advantage of having a hot-shoe for attaching an external flash.

Also dimension-wise, its slightly larger and with a larger LCD, its expected that power consumption would be higher than that of S3.

I have the S3 and it is quite good. However, I also have a small point & click for when I don't fancy lugging a huge camera bag around.

The question also arises; How much do you want to spend?

If you're used to using a viewfinder to take photos, and you take a lot of photos, you might want to look to upgrade yourself to an entry-level DSLR such as the Canon Rebel XTi. There are a lot of advantages on image quality and lenses for a DSLR, but obviously they cost a bit more.

Whee! I just upgraded myself to a Canon Rebel XT (350D). I also purchased a Tamron 70-300 lens.

The quality of the images is noticeably better in many aspects.
