Oh Zelda Sue, this is so useful. Thanks so much. We do have some framed prints (not mine but the better photographer in the house) and I love them. Your suggestions are much appreciated.

Kwintesenc: I tried scrapbooking once. If you're anything like me (impatient, klutzy and not "crafty"), you will do yourself grievous bodily harm with the implements and want to drive off a bridge 1/4 of the way through the project.
In my opinion, it makes a nice gift but it's not an effective way to store large volumes of photographs. Too much space is taken by text and frames and decorative pieces.

I have a feeling that may be true for me as well! The most crafty thing I do is cross-stitch and all I have to do is follow a pattern for that. Coming up with something all on my own...my brain just doesn't function that way. But I thought it might be fun to at least try, not as a gift, but as a special memory book for my trip. I have packed a folder in my suitcase to hold ticket stubs and pamphlets, etc, that I may gather on my trip just in case I do decide to make a scrapbook.

ZeldaSue,

I will definitely be looking into that program as I know that I have a few family members and friends who would really appreciate a gift of that sort and not at all resist in sharing my photos Smiler

Hi Brenda, I am like your hubby and went thru the days photo's at the end of each day (or during lulls on the coach) to delete bad/fuzzy pics so when I got home I had cd's made, printed out the one's I liked (almost all of them!) for the photo album (I use the 3 ring binder type so I can add more pages if need be, 1 album per trip) to show to co-workers/family&friends along with postcards (of the places photo's not allowed) and the few ticket stubs that I had saved. They are also on my computer so I can browse or send at will. What a great time we live in to have so many options.... Big Grin
I don't have a digital photo frame yet but a friend does and it's really cool, just a push of a button and the pic is changed. They are a bit pricey to me but prices tend to fall so.....(about $50.00 US for a 8X10 frame, not sure of the gig/memory size)

Scrapbooking is a wonderful hobby, you can express yourself through your photo's and leave a heritage for others to see long after you have gone, you don't need to be crafty or creative, just join a good scrapbooking class and before you know it you will have learnt the basic's and you can continue to scrapbook on your own.

I normally have three albums on the go so I don't become bored with what I am doing. It all comes down to how much you want to personalise your photo's, scrapbooking is not about using too much space with text or frames or decorative pieces, in fact you can collage more photo's on one page in scrapbooking then by inserting individual photos.

When your holiday scrapbook is completed place it on your coffee table and it will become a conversational piece for everyone sitting there. Smiler

Hi Missie Smiler

I think there are 3 places near my home that would probably offer scrapbooking classes. I might do that when I get home.

I use a program that came with my Canon camera a few years ago. It is called PHOTO RECORD. I can arrange photos (with frames and words if needed) to fit on a 81/2 x11 in. photo paper. I then get those plastic protectors of the same size, put my pictures in them and then put everything in a 3 ring binder. My last trip I needed 2 binders. I like this program as you can put several smaller pictures on one page or a full size print for a favorite. You can also tilt the pictures or make a collage. I usually pick a color scheme for the frames and writing and sometimes, the background.

You could do this in Photoshop of any photo-editing program, but I think this is a little easier to coordinate everything. I do use Photoshop Elements to get my pictures ready before I use Photo Record.

Kwintesenc: It is really a good idea to go there before you go away and ask them what and how would be the best way to collect memorabilia whilst on tour. When I travel I collect stickers (make sure they are specific scrapbooking stickers, acid & linus free) I also collect postcards because sometimes its not possible to get a good enough photo of a particular building or church with your own camera.

I never fuss about collecting paper because lets face it you cover it up with photo's anyway, plus there is an excellent company in USA that supplies all types of scrapbooking materials, have a look at the link below.

If you would like any further information or photo's of my scrapbooking please email me at travelmissie@yahoo.com.au and I will be happy to send them to you.

I took over 700 pictures on a trip to England and Scotland last year and I printed them all. Some of you may think that's crazy and to tell you the truth, I think I did as well. But I like to sit down with a photo album and look trhough the photos.

I scrapbooked them all and did a diary entry for each day. There aren't that many embellishments in it, but I did do lettering and such. I got the scrapbooks from Costco so I got 5 for a reasonable price and this held all of the photos, postcards and tickets.

It did take me a long time to complete, but I found that it gave me something to do to get passed the downer of the trip being over and I could relive each day.

I print my best pictures, maybe 20-25%, of all that I take on a trip and put those in a regular photo album. Of those maybe 30-40% will be duplicted and scrapbooked. I scrapbook only the best of the best. I try to keep each trip to 12-14 pages in a scrapbook so people won't be overwhelmed or bored when they sit down to look at it. I can usually get three trips in an album.
