Will Trafalgar have tours to Dubai soon? A Wonders of Egypt with a Dubai extension would be AWESOME!

Not sure if a TT would work here - unless you like shopping!! There are cruises that you can take from here that sail to other places in the UAE and goes to Oman as well. If you need any info on Dubai, feel free to ask. Smiler

Dimpz, I went to Dubai last year on my way home from the UK...........did a short stopover, only three days, and I was crook with bronchial pneumonia the entire time........desert temperatures don't do a high fever much good ha ha, but I fell in love with Dubai. I'm having four nights there on my way to Egypt and four nights on my way back to Oz. I can't wait. High tea at the Burj is on my agenda and so is a skiing lesson at the Mall Of The Emirates!

I worked with a girl who stayed at the Burj & since seeing her photos & hearing all about Dubai I have been dying to go. I think we would probably do it the way you are, as a stopover. Is it about 12 hours from Sydney?

Hmmmmmm it would make that last leg (on the way home) a long one. I prefer to only have to do 9-10 hours on the last stretch.

I loved what we saw of Dubai. Pity is was only for 4 days. The Burj is lovely. We had our afternoon tea in the Skyview Bar. What a fantastic view. You see right out over the Gulf, the Palm Islands and the new/tallest building (forget what it is called)in the world. Skiing is a buzz. Not something you expect in a desert country. The shopping malls are a real eye opener. I have never seen such big places before. The gold souk...well what can I say....bling bling. But going to this lovely place took some travelling. Spare a thought for us as with the 1 & 3/4 hr layover in Melbourne it took nearly 19 hours in total to get there. Although it did not seem that we were travelling for that length of time and I would do it again.

Now, shopping Dimpz?.......are you ready?, let's go......it's great fun haggling...... Big Grin

NZ nurse, how far in advance did you book to do your afternoon tea at the Burj? What did you think of the goodies they served you?

I booked a couple of months in advance. You just e-mail them at BAArestaurants@jumeirah.com, requesting what you would like eg, afternoon tea or a meal, give your CC details (to hold the booking), contact number and they send a confirmation e-mail back. You need to print this off and show it at the security gate when you arrive. You can only get to the "island" and the Burj if you have that printout.

The goodies were lovely. They serve you little sandwiches, cakes & pastries, chocolate dipped strawberries with gold leaf on a tiered cake plate shaped like the Burj itself. The coffee (latte) was delicious. You can also have champagne. You have a hostess and they replenish your treats and coffee as often as you like. It was quite decadent and although I would not spend that much on afternoon tea here it was a real treat. And after all that is what holidaying is all about.

You can take your camera even though the literature says now photography. Just be mindful of other guests. Our hostess took photos of Alan & I. I will try and post a couple tomorrow when I get home off this dreaded nightshift.

Stinkerbelle - when you do book - make sure you ask for the high tea at the Skyview Bar - it is much nicer than having it in the lounge downstairs. Smiler
