I am scheduled to go for the Trafalgar's Real Egypt tour that includes a 3 night Nile Cruise. Is there a concept of a "formal night" or any other "non-normal" night whilst on the Nile cruise?
Need to know this to help me pack. Thanks in advance. |

No formal night stuff in Egypt. On the Nile you may have a Galabea/belly dancer/whirling dervish type evening. No need to worry at all. |

No formal night but we had "Nubian night" and we dressed Egyptian dostumes and danced together.

I'm doing the Wonders of Ancient Egypt in October and can hardly wait. Bring on the belly dancing and the Galabea's!

I did the Real Egypt tour January 19 through 26, 2008 & had a fantastic time! Spring Tours (operates Egypt tours for Trafalgar) was very professional and a joy to travel with. Our tour guide, Ahmed Tantaway, was TERRIFIC! And yes, it is possible to visit Egypt and not get Tut's Tummy. When you arrive, give the GI tract time to adjuststart by starting out with small portions of foods that are similar to home. Stick with bottled water (readily available everywhere - just make sure the bottle is sealed before opening it). I brushed my teeth with tap water.
Casual clothing for the entire trip was fine. I wouldn't wear ripped jeans to the ship's dining room, but "smart" casual (similar to business casual) isn't necessary either. The people of Egypt are amazing - very warm & kind. (From a woman's perspective) Please be respectful and courteous by dressing appropriately. I recommend not wearing sleeveless shirts, shorts, deep v-neck shirts, short skirts, etc. I noticed that those who dressed with consideration were treated with utmost respect - a very nice thing indeed. |

I've just purchased my clothing to take to Egypt......I made I bought long cotton trousers, button up T-shirts with decent sleeves. I want to go there and show that I am respectful of their country and culture.

Yes, that's exactly what I intend to do. Not to mention I won't have to put on as much sunscreen if I cover up! Just out of interest, are you on the Oct 14th departure? Because if so there are two more of us on here too, and I may have to make our own special thread in the "Meet Before You Travel" forum. Lol. |

I'm on the 30 September departure. I'm having 4 nights in Dubai on the way to Egypt and 4 nights on the way back - I love Dubai! Went there last year on my way back to Australia from England, whilst in England I caught bronchial pneumonia - it was interesting walking around Dubai in the searing heat with a terrible case of pneumonia! Not sure how one walks around with a terrible case of bronchial pneumonia in searing heat...most here would have been hospitalized.

Roxy, if it's the viral kind, you can still be on your feet walking; a bacterial pneumonia however can land you in hospital.

yes I think bronchial was stated. . .even viral would probably land me in the hospital trying to navigate the Egyptian heat!

Me too, Roxy, although were I in Egypt, I might be tempted to soldier on despite how lousy I felt. I can't believe anyone with a bronchitis complicated by pneumonia--even viral--wouldn't be down and out. But youth . . .
