Hi Travel5150,
We are going to Egypt shortly. Apparently you can get Egyptian visa at airport when you arrive, however I didn't want that hassle so got my visa now. My TA sent in form with our passports, I am picking them up this week. Only took 2 weeks to get them. Cost a little more as they were sent by special post but I thought one less thing to worry about.

You don't NEED vaccines, but they are strongly RECOMMENDED. For people in the UK, the recommended vaccines are hep B, cholera, and typhoid. These are all highly unpleasant diseases, and to my mind it's foolish to take a chance. Remember not to leave it to the last minute - it can take a month or so for vaccines to provide you with effective protection.

Malaria isn't an issue in Egypt except in the area of the Nile delta - a place where tourists don't generally visit.

Chris is correct, but I would also like to list Hep A and (for completeness sake) Yellow Fever. One may argue that the above 2 vaccines are not required since those diseases are not prevalent in Egypt, but I took them anyway.

I agree with Chris, it's better to be safe than sorry. And definately don't leave them to the last minute as the vaccines can make you feel washed out for a couple of weeks, especially so many in one hit. Pays to make sure you are up to date with tetanus as well.
Don't forget to take medication for diarrohea and vomiting with you. There's a good chance you'll need it, sorry to say!

Add an up to date tetnus shot to the list. I took Cipro with me on my wonderful trip this past April, just in case of stomach problems - never had a single problem though. In fact, there was only one lady in our group that I know of that actually became ill. Have a great time! You will love every minute that you are in Egypt! PLT

While we are on the topic of vomiting and diarrhea, its advisable to pack a roll of toilet paper. Most places will have acceptable toilets, its better if you carry "thy daily toilet-paper" with you.

Sorry for the deviation from the vaccine topic.

Always find if I have the tablets for any tummy bugs it's like a preventative. Don't have them with you and you get the bugs. Years ago you used to be able to get typhoid/cholera in one shot.

Pretty sure our typhoid/cholera were combined. Had 5 vac's, 3 needles. Hardly felt them, one in the rear end was the worst! Hurt more the next day. Frowner

We didn't have any vaccines before our trip. Purely out of choice. Don't know if it was risky or not. The hotels are 5 star quality on Trafalgar tours( Google Le Meridien Pyramid hotel). Absolutely spotless , as are the coaches. We carried a container of hand cleanser at all times, and if we handled Egyptian money, always used it after.
Our tour director carried `Antinal` capsules for any tummy troubles.( Available over the counter in Egyptian Pharmacies). Imodium, not effective enough.

The only place we found where toilet paper was `rationed`, was in the mobile loos at the temple sites. Hotels, everything was as normal as home. In those porta-loos ( ?) paper cannot be flushed . But put in a container at the side of the toilet. Hence why I always made sure I wouldn't need to go when out and about !!!
