They will take US dollars in Israel for sure, and I'm pretty certain they will take GB pounds. Don't know about euros because they weren't invented when I was last there.

thanks for all your information, I spoke to a coworker whos a cruise organizer and they actually prefer US dollars, over Euros! funny I thought since the Euro is worth alot more than the Us dollar.
she said to get small dollars (ones and fives) to bargain with street vendors who will automatically put things up over 70% of the cost, good to know, since I can be such a sap at times hah!

I presume that what they mean is that they prefer the same value in US $s, not the same face value. So would I if I could sit on the $s for a while as it will certainly improve.

Does anyone know if local vendors in Egypt or Israel take Euros or only local currency?
Thanks!!
I just got back from Egypt on Sunday and those vendors will take any currency. As a matter of fact they will quote you in $US, Euros, GBP and then Egyptian pounds (EGP). I actually bought a couple of scarves and paid part in EGP and the rest in EUROs, the guy even gave me change in Euros. Even the little kids selling post cards or bracelets on the street were quoting 3 or 4 different currencies....they know their stuff if they want to make a sale.
