Hi blackatoo

Around November to March is probably the best times to travel to Egypt as far as the temperatures are concerned.

We were in Egypt in May (26 April to 1 May to be precise) with temperatures reaching into the 40+ range in the Valley of the Kings. It was hot and a bit uncomfortable at times but we generally coped OK with it and there were plenty of bottles of water supplied on the boat to keep ourselves hydrated with. After all we get those sorts of temps in Oz anyway.

Generally speaking the weather in Egypt is hot.

There are basically only two seasons in Egypt which are:
1. The "hot" season which is May to October and
2. The “cool” season which is November to April.

It is generally warm all year round but keep in mind that the desert can be quite cool at night.

You also tend to get the sandstorms in April-May from the hot Spring winds and you would miss those in November (we did experience one of them on May 1 during our Nile Cruise).

You will also find the area around Cairo much cooler than say the Valley of the Kings. As you move up the valley away from the delta and towards Luxor etc you will notice an increase in temperature.

Have a look at these average temps and they may help you with your concerns.

Hi All, Haven't posted for sometime, but since I started this thread almost a year ago, I thought I'd drop in to say we leave for Egypt very soon(Dec. 23). TT's Wonder of...was our first choice, but the days didn't work out so we're taking the comparable 13-day Insight tour. The bag, wallet, and intinerary came last week. A family member goes to the Egyptian Consulate in NYC today to get the visas. Packing seems to be the tricky thing. Flying out of a cold area and into a warmer area always requires one to carry a winter coat that won't be needed on the other end, though I'm thinking a North Face jacket is still light enough that it won't weigh down luggage for the tour bus and cruise. I've always envisioned myself walking through Egypt with sandals, but given the sand and the season, do sandals even make sense for Dec-Jan?
