Hi Karter,
I have been to all three place, in early May.
LA & Anaheim very nice temp about mid 20's, t-shirt weather.
Vegas was hotter 30c, shorts, t-shirt weather.
Cool nights, take a light jacket.

Mid April will be nice in Los Angeles, Anaheim and even in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It will be about 70F to 75F in LA and in Anaheim. Las Vegas will be warmer, probably 80F to 85F. Humidity in Las Vegas will be very low.

Thanks Als & Cats. That's about what I was expecting. We've got 5 nights in San Francisco before going to Las V and Los A so layers will be the way to go.

Cheers
Vicki

Karter...

As for your 5 days in SF:

Q: Do you need to know what interesting stuff there is to see and not miss in SF and how to get around?

Trafalgar knows some, but we know much more. Smiler

Cat's - I was in SF end of May last year with hubby and although we managed to do heaps of things it was at the end of our 5 weeks away and we were pretty tired.

I would love your advice on interesting stuff to see and do as I'm sure we did not get to half of it Smiler

We are 4 very enthusiastic ladies with ages ranging from 45 to 51 years young. We are staying in the Fisherman's Wharf area and have booked a 5.5 hour tour of SF on our first full day. Alcatraz is a definite and we have also booked a Wine Train lunch.

Cheers
Vicki

Karter; Try to eat at least once in Chinatown, and if you are staying near the wharf you will be close to Ghiardelli Square, famous for chocolate and unique shopping.
Take care;
Jo

For great views of the city and the bay go up the Coit Tower. And, of course, do not miss Lombard St and a ride on the Cable car.

Hi Karter,
I did a tour of the northwest coast June 2004, and we did the Napa Valley Wine Train Dinner, start off with wine tasting a nibbles, then you move into the dinning carriage for dinner very nice. Also walked over the Golden Gate Brigde, very windy, took 30 mins, nice view. In China town we saw how fortune cookies were made.

When we were in San Fran we booked a day tour to Yosemite. It was absolutely stunning and remains one of my favourite memories of America.

Yes, Vegas will be hot. When outside stick to the A/C walks ... Cool The Outlets are well worth a look too.

LA should be nice. SFC has so much to do - do the obvious, and just walk about. Try the soup and take a CC ride.

The wine train I suppose will be quite nice, but it might be better to rent a car and drive up to Nappa Valley, (straight run and not that far) visiting the various vineyards that are in close proximity to each other...everything from Champagne (well sparkling wine) to Cabernet; great tasting rooms, picnic areas and vistas.

Calistoga is nearby with the Geyser that erupts on schdule every not sure ... 40 minutes perhaps.

Sonoma Valley could be visited on the way back.

When back in SF, visit the Haight-Ashbury district (the famous '60s era of the beatnik generation and their non conformist pioneering days).

SF seems to always have fog until maybe noon time so don't let it damper your plans - suddenly it's sunny.

I assume the dozens of sea lions still sunbathe on the rocks at the wharf and their actions and sounds are comical!

Have a great time! Cool

You're all making me long to go to SF again. It's been a long time, and I loved, loved, loved that coast. We drove up on Highway 1 from L.A.--magnificent. I can well understand why Californians don't need to leave their state. They have everything there. When I'm reincarnated, I want to arrive in Carmel by the Sea.

Brenda; You are right about HWY 1, but IMHO, the best way to see it is to drive from SF [ or as we did, San Jose] to San Diego.
Going that way you are right on the coast.
Makes me want to head out to O'Hare this very morning!
Take care;
Jo

Umm, we did that as well, Jo, also spectacular. Wonder if there are any last minute flights. I could also settle for San Diego when I'm reincarnated if Carmel is full. Big Grin

Best, Brenda

p.s. there's lots of room in Hearst Castle. Wink
