Mike,
Have you been to Newfoundland? We have been to other parts of Canada so this is new to us. We are going with a tennis group to play with the Canadians as they came here to play with us this summer and we also want some sightseeing time .I have researched some places to see but hopefully someone on this board who has been to Newfoundland will give me suggestions on the best places to see.

Dimpz,
Oh, how nice to hear from you too! How is life treating you? I am going be back on the boards more frequently now as I do miss it. We are not taking a TT this year but I find I miss my TT friends. What trips have you taken lately?

After the Newfoundland trip we are going with three of Bill's Air Force buddies and their wives to Ireland in Sept. 09. It won't be a tour. We will be doing it on our own.I am assuming we will be renting a van for the eight of us. Only one of the couples has been to Ireland but they didn't see everything,so I definitely will be back on the boards asking you guys all those questions again, so get ready for that!!

Hi Khchristanhna ~ Sounds to me like you have some good times ahead - enjoy!

We had a big year last year, we both retired & along with a mother & daughter trip to Hong Kong we took 2 x TT's. Visiting Eastern Europe & Italy & Sicily, both amazing in their different ways.

We have a TT in the U.S. next month, it is the 1st time we have been to that part of the world & greatly looking forward to it.

Lovely that you plan on popping in more in the future Smiler

Hi Khchristanhna

I have only been to Newfoundland once and did on see much of it as I was on work. I have considered going on tour. TT does not offer a tour but "G" does. You may be able to get some ideas from the tour outline. For me, a must see would be the ice bergs that flow off the coast.

Joe and Shannon,
Thanks for your help. We are doing NFL on our own as we are going with a tennis team group and will be staying a week in one place which is St.John's.We will be staying in the Signal Hill area. We may take some short sightseeing trips on a local bus or van but we can't venture out too far away as there are tennis matches every day.
I have read about many places we could see like Signal Hill,Cape Spear, Botanical Garden, George St., "The Rooms",Johnson Geo Centre, Water ST. Which ones above do you think would be the best to see and what other sites to see would you recommend? Thanks to you both for helping me.

Sorry I can't be of more help, Kris, and I'm delighted to hear your husband is much better. I've never been to Newfoundland (& Labrador) and I've always wanted to. I know it's a great place for whale watching, and the people I've met or known from there are wonderful. I know also that they'll welcome you "from away" as they call it, with open arms. Beware someone offering you screech, their homespun "rotgut" liquor but I did hear that cod's tongues are delicious once you get over the puzzlement. Some of Canada's best regarded comics and satirists are from there so although they only and very reluctantly became Canada in 1948, we love it dearly, our "Rock."

There's a book called "The Shipping News" by (memory glitch but it's the woman who wrote "Brokeback Mountain") and you'd get a real flavour of Nd if you read it. It's a terrific book.

Brenda (welcome back, it's so good to see you posting again)

If you are in St. John's during the weekend of Sept 6,2008 & Sept 7, 2008 you will be able to visit some of the most interesting buildings in the city. You will find the info at the Doors open days website.

Thanks Brenda and gunduponnu for your help and advice. I am now sweating it out as I have an abscessed tooth that needs a root canal and a new bridge. I am suffering horribly. The dentist feels I will be ok to go in the first week of Sept.

The problem is that I have a bridge where the abscess is and my former, not so good dentist, did not take out the roots when he did the original bridge so as I understand it I will have to see an oral surgeon to take out the roots before I have the root canal and new bridge put in. My new dentist said this is malpractice, but I don't want to pursue it as it has been a long time since I used that dentist. I am praying he is right and I can go on the trip. I am on Augmentin and Percocet now and pretty miserable.

I do have a good idea of what we will see each day in Newfoundland so thanks so much for the help everyone gave me. You guys are the best!

Khchristianhna, I am so sorry that you're having to go through this, and I hope you get some relief quickly.

I'm betting your dentist is right. I worked for one, and it was great to see people coming out smiling after it was all said and done.

Take care. Wink
