Hope you can help me. 4 very excited ladies are traveling to the USA in April. We have 8 nights in Anaheim at the end of our 3 week trip.

Question: what is the best way of "doing" San D from Anaheim. We have found no info on the web for day tours that take in the city only. 3 out of 4 of us have already been to Sea World and the Zoo so we would prefer to miss these and just concentrate on getting a good look at the city.

Pack what you think you're going to need - then put half of it back in your wardrobe ! ! !

I am not from California--by a long shot--so hopefully someone from out there can help you. My one suggestion that with four of you, maybe you could get a private driver and limo or large car and he/she can drive you down. That way you can pick and choose where you want to go.

Karter...

In San Diego about all that is left to see is Balboa Park, Point Loma, Old Town and a few other places. All of that is about two days of sight seeing or so.

Do you really want to spend 8 days there? Smiler There are many great places to visit and see to the north of where you are staying.

Will you be able to rent or hire a car and drive on the other side of the road? We drive on the right.

I agree with Cat's, there is not much to do in San Diego, maybe lunch or tea at Hotel Del Coronado, a walk by the Gas Lamp District; there is a train from Anaheim (Amtrak), and taking a cab from the station? La Jolla es pretty and has very good theaters. Maybe near by Temecula, with its wineries and casinos, even hot air balloon rides. Driving is perhaps the best way to get around San Diego and surrounding areas.

I LOVEd San Diego when I visited on my TT in May last year.
It was one of the few places I have visited in any part of the world that I could seriously consider living in.

I could spend 8 days there in a flash!!

Hi Colleen Anne, do you mind sharing with us what did you like and where did you stay?, I know San Diego is very pretty (wouldn't mind living there myself), but I am a loss at to what recommend tourists, when I have company we always end up going to Del Coronado, walk on the beach there, to the Cabrillo Museum, etc. it has great views, that's for sure. I am glad you enjoyed our neck of the woods...thanks.

Why stay in Anaheim for 8 days. You should rent a car, and either drive down to San Diego and/or up the coast to Santa Barbara, Cambria and Hearst Castle.

For San Diego, add La Jolla, Wild Animal Park, and Torrey Pines State Reserve (if you like beautiful hikes)to your list.

Thanks for the suggestions. We have 6 out of the 8 days in Anaheim/Los Angeles planned and had thought that a 1 day trip down to San Diego would be nice. Last time I was there was in 2001 with Hubby and 2 teenage daughters so the Zoo and Sea World (where hubby and youngest got to interact with Sharmu the Whale) were obvious choices for our 2 day stop.

I take it from some of your comments that there is really is not a lot of sights/attractions in San Diego.

If you had 2 spare days what would you do. We have planned Disneyland, Outlet shopping, full day sightseeing tour of LA and Universal Studios

I was thinking of getting a lux bus from san diego to Anaheim rather then getting the TT from San diego into lax then a shuttle to Anaheim is this a good idea?
