LOL Spooks ~ During our recent TT I was gobsmacked (to say the least) when a lady complimented me on the fact that she could understand what I was saying, as she quote: 'usually finds it impossible to understand people from your country'!!!!!!! Eeker

I smiled to myself as I actually found her not easy to understand. Roll Eyes

Spooks ~ Yes I was somewhat surprised by the comment. Travelling with TT helps us mix with many different people & I, for one, enjoy that as much as all the other facets of a tour. It takes all kinds Wink

I am the worst with deciphering accents. Our IT service desk is physically located in Sydney and the techs that answer phones have a variety of accents - no two sound the same.

A recent comment was that he disliked the "rhine"...now I'm thinking travel so I was surprised; meantime he meant rain and we both had a good laugh. Big Grin

I can never tell Aussie, Kiwi or South African and we have all in our firm. Six sounds like sex, rain sounds like Rhine and one could wind up in trouble making assumptions! Big Grin Big Grin

LOL roxy you must have a few pregnant pauses to your working day. It would be the Kiwi saying six & it sounding like sex. As him/her to say fish & chips very different. Just like us we can be lazy speakers"havagudwekend" is " Have a good weekend" or "Howyagonmate" "How are you going mate" & the very famous "G'Day" meaning "Good Day" all different & sometimes very entertaining LOL!!!

Cheers

DH and I have these funny conversations from time to time about what people are saying in their various, and to me, fascinating, accents. I grew up in England in the Midlands and as chance would have am also pretty good at languages so at times I can actually be like Mr 'iggins in Pygmalion , and tease my husband by saying, Stoke-on-Trent not Nottingham, Sidney not Adelaide. Of course I have no idea whether that's true or not but it gets him riled because he can't even work out sometimes what they've said, let alone where they're from. Yes, I'm a meanie but in a teasing way Big Grin.

Brenda - you were brought up in the Midlands too!!! Now I understand your kindred sense of humour. I was brought up in Stoke on Trent (Newcastle under Lyme to be specific) - what a small world! Big Grin (how you can be on Trent and under Lyme simultaneously - I have yet to work out, perhaps that is from where we derive both derive our bizzare and sometimes cruel sense of humour!) Big Grin

Bizzare, I'll take, but cruel? Hmm, that's more me than you, old mate.

Went to Nottingham Girls High School till my parents decided I'd raised enough hell and sent me to boarding school in Rutland, Morcott Hall, which I gather does not exist any more--the county and the school as I knew it, anyway. Funny thing, the lovely volunteer who drove my sis and me to the hospital the other day is from Stoke-on-Trent, and he's going back for several months next year.

ciaobella,

Thank you so much for your kind offer to meet up - I really appreciate it.

Unfortunately my free days in NY are a lot less than I originally wanted, and I am now absolutely strapped for time. Even my dear friend from LA has decided not to fly over as I don't have enought time to make this worthwhile.

However, Roxy has invited me to have drinks/dinner?? in Manhattan on (possibly) the evening of Friday 23rd May, and has kindly extended the invitation to other BBers. If you feel that you could make it on this date it would be great to meet you.

(You always had the courage to travel solo, you just didn't know it).

ciaobella,

Great news - really looking forward to it.

I just hope I get some TIME to shop - I love shopping but it moves down to the bottom of my list when there are things to see.

Roll on May !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Roxy and Ciaobella,

I wanted to let you know that my dates in New York have now changed (for the better) due to a necessary reorganisation of my tours. Instead of having 2 days pre-tour and 2 days post - I am now having 4 days post, which will make things a lot easier.

I now join the tour on its first day, which is in Washington, and go straight to my hotel in Times Square at the end, so I won't have the inconvenience of being down at the Marroitt Financial District at all.

The tour ends pm on Thursday 5th, and I have Friday, Saturday and Sunday there before flying home pm on Monday 9th - ie. evenings of 5,6,7 & 8 are so far free if any of these suit you in lieu of 23rd may as previously discussed.

Cheers all.

Colleen.

Hi Colleen, Unfortunately I Have Clapton Tickets that weekend and will be staying out of town with friends. In case the weekend shortens, I'll keep your visit plans noted. Good to hear you have more time in NYC...it will give you a better opportunity to do more things. Let's see what "trouble" we can drum up for you to get into! Smiler

Roxy,

So sorry to miss you but hope you have a great weekend. I'm sure there is an over-supply of trouble for me to get into in NYC without even trying.
Looking forward to it so much - 60 sleeps to go !!
