Roxy,

I deliberately avoided the Jazz Festival when I was planning my trip - I imagined hoards of people and increased prices, plus accommodation was already scarce for Jazz Festival dates when I looked way back in October.

As I keep thinking and saying - "next time" - (I should live so long!!).

I am having trouble getting a ticket for "South Pacific" - I've been trying for a couple of weeks. The Vivian Beaumont site refers you elsewhere for tickets and all the sites that carry them have them either in pairs and will not split, or single tickets up in the $500-700 bracket (I nearly fell off my perch with shock).

When I get to NYC I will go directly to the box office or the ticket booth in Times Square. I usually have really good luck getting a ticket to most things as there are often singles available. Keep your fingers crossed.

Your performance dates are rather close so the tix become more scarce and the dear ones remain. I got mine back in November.

Your best shot is to go when the theater's box office opens on the eve of your show for last minute cancellations. This play is a "hit", dates have been extended and the tix booth on Broadway/Times Square is not likely to have any tix. You are right, sometimes a last minute single has a good chance vs 2 or 3.

Colleen2- Did you try contacting the hotel where you will be staying to see if they have an arrangement with Lincoln Center -re: South Pacific tickets that they offer their guests at a first come first served basis. Maybe you could ask for a ticket to be held for you during your stay- even if it is a matinee performance.

South Pacific as Roxy mentioned is a huge hit- now on Open Ended - no close date- with tickets available through January, 2009.

Roxy and Lizv,

Many thanks for the good advice. I had not thought of checking with the hotel - I will contact them and ask. Otherwise I will be at the box office when it opens on the day and take my chances. I hope my luck holds !!
(if not, there are plenty of other things to see).

23 sleeps to go !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ciaobella,

Apologies - time is getting on and I am having so much trouble getting my night time arrangements for NYC finalised that I think we have no choice other than to skip the suggested get-together for this trip if you will forgive me.

I have been unable to get advance tickets for some of the shows I want to see, so I will be doing a daily box-office crawl to see if there are single tickets available. Obviously, I need to be flexible and have no prior commitments if I am to do this successfully.

Apologies again -I hope that this doesn't inconvenience you.

Not read all of this - but offering advice regardless ... Cool

We find - no-matter where we go - but especially in the USA - if you put the details in "Google" and search you will find good/cheap tickets for just about anything.

AND, you can also check the seating arrangements.

I'd be very surprise if South Pacific wasn't there ... Cool

Saint Mike,

You are my lucky charm !!!!!

You inspired me to do some more looking (I had already put a lot of work into this over the last few weeks) and lo and behold, I found a couple of single seats. My previous problem was not lack of seats - it was seats only offered in pairs.

I now have a good seat for Friday 6th May.

(Please now wave your magic wand over my documents problem).

Cheers,
C.

May 6th is a Tuesday, not a Friday - assume you just typo'd the wrong day?

...and kudos CA2 - if it were Sat., May 9th you would have seen me there for the matinee with my first and 2nd born for my Mother's Day treat (Mother's day is May 10th so the city will be packed that weekend, particularly Sunday) !

Colleen Anne,

No Apologies needed. I hope you do everything your heart desires while visiting NYC, it is already starting to really warm up here , today too many people enjoying the outdoors around lunchtime. Hopefully the humidity is low when you visit.
Please don't think twice about it nothing to forgive....all along the theater's there is restaurant row... to many to pick from!

Roxy,

Sorry, it's June 6th (I nearly had a heart attack when I saw your post - phew!!). I'm now after NYPO tickets for the 'Mahler'concert.

Ciaobella - thanks for being so gracious. These trips just involve so much rush that it makes things hard to plan. Next time !!!!!!!!
