I just got my copy of the USA/Canada Brochure on the 2006 Tours. The prices on the tours have really gone up. If you're traveling by yourself, the single supplement has really gone out of sight. On a few tours, the supplement is either at the high $600's to a low $1000 which will be added to the base price bringing the total price up over $2700 on the average. I guess there will be fewer members taking tours of the USA/Canada. I'm just wondering what the prices will be for the Europe/Britain tours when the brochure comes out. If they go up on the high side, I guess my days of traveling has come to an end as far as long tours are concern. Can't afford them since I'm on a fixed income (retirement income).

That's a shame. The Europe/Britain brochure should be out in a few weeks, right? My fingers are crossed that the prices aren't prohibitively expensive.

I've noticed over the past few years that the prices have not gone up as much for Canadians as they have for Americans. This is probably because of the strength of our dollar. I guess we'll find out in a couple of weeks when the brochures are out.

Marie - I just came back from the "Autumn Colors" tour-I didn't pay the supplement and luckily didn't have to share. It annoys me that singles are charged so much more to travel (would have been approx $850Cdn for this trip).I had hoped to take a Europe tour in a couple years but like you will be discouraged if the price is too high with the supplement as I prefer not to share.

DebraS - I know it seems a lot, but single people are not being victimised. It is simply a matter of a hotel room costing so much, but if two people are able to share it, the cost per person person is reduced, as they are sharing the cost between them.

DebraS, the single supplement on U.S. tours is really high. They are far more reasonable on European tours. I don't really know why but I discovered this myself this past summer.

hi this is hershey- I guess I will be traveling in th e US also this next year. I really wanted to try the continent , but not at these prices. It cost me around 7,000 US dollars to go to UK in October. I always wanted to go across Canada in a train, with sleeper cars. It looks so pretty in the brochures. I love Canada anywasy, having spent most every summer for 3 weeks in Blind River, Ontario. We were on Lake Matinenda. It was a dream in the 60s and 70's. To this day I love the smell of pine treees and fresh water. After going to canada the lakes in US were a let-down. I love the cold, clear water, and the ability to sleep on hot summer nights without air conditioners. I got back from uk in November. It was the last tripthere for me. We are on a fixed income, also. My husband is a disabled firefighter/paramedic. Next year we can go on Elderhostel, as he will be 55 then. I am a lot younger!!! HA!! I should send for th e US brochures. I love the package tour TT offers. It makes it easy to get your accomodations and meals. It should be a lot easier to get around in our own country. I athink the foreignness of UK was what I had trouble with. Getting around the cities was difficult. I was unfamiliar with the customs, etc. Maybe i'm just too old to adapt anymore. By the time we could afford to go overseas we were both starting to fall apart , stuck in our ways. The European BB hates me now because I posted a naegative tour tale. I had pneumonia at the time, took a course of corticosteroids and antibiotics, and am much back to normal now. I just wish I had the trip to do over again. I think I will attempt a warmer and drier climate next year! I have been to all the coasts, really love New England and that area. I don't care for Florida. What is Georgia like for a trip? California is OK, too crowded, but I like The northern part. It is almost like Ohio up there. I like when the trees change colors inthe fall. I live in the biggest tourist area for the Amish homes and farms. People love to come here in the fall, get married, etc. here. Anyone have any new ideas for a tour? Does TT offer train trips across Canada? _REGARDS__ HERSHEY !!!!

Hershey, nobody hates you, I enjoy reading everyones comments, whether they are positive or negative about a tour. Ever tour is different, sometimes it runs beautifully, other times things go amiss. If it's your first trip you really don't know what to expect, I didn't,
but fortunately I had the best time. I did the UK in 2004 and it was my first TT. I'm doing the Canada/Alaska cruise, train and coach trip in 2006. Really looking forward to it. Keep travelling. Find what brings you joy and go there. |

Hershey, there is no such thing as European BB. We all are participants of several forums, all of which form one and the same TTBB. I didn't get involved in any of the discussions on your post-tour postings and this one is the first one I am answering. I think you got us wrong, nobody hates you here and nobody is sniping at you, so please take off your negative-perception glasses. We all noted how enthusiastic you were before your trip and helped your preparation by answering as many of your questions as possible. Can't you recall all the well wishing from many of us as you were setting off for your tour? After such excitement, it is only natural to feel disappointed to hear that not all worked out the way you expected, but that is no criticism of yourself. This is what travelling is all about - things just sometimes turn out differently without us being able to do anything about it, except to take in our stride and adapt. Becoming ill on your tour certainly made things worse, but- hey- that’s what sometimes happens. You are not the first or last person to become ill when travelling. None of us would blame you for that, so please get it out of your head, enjoy the memories of your travels and the photos. I am glad to hear you are considering other trips, wherever they might be. Happy travelling. australena -------------------------- Don't count the mileage, count the memories |

australena- I'm in a better mood now. I have actually started watching BBC again! I came home and did't feel like discussing the trip with anyone. I got my pictures developed and they came out dark. Then I got one really GOOD roll back. I wish all had come out like that. The camera was one we got across from the parliament houses, in a Tesco! If I go again I want to research the various disposable cameras. I still can't get my videocam to play out. We got it off the Home shopping club, and have to return it. I just tool the memory card out. The one button is stuck down in the body of the cam. So much for NBC Shopping club!

We had a problem with our video camera too. We bought it (Sony digital) just before our European trip, in April 2004. It worked all right o/s and we recorded about 25hrs or more of video footage in our 16 weeks away. We were processing the videos only slowly (my husband's thousands of photos had the processing priority
We took it to Hawaii in March, then to Queensland in April. When we were processing the videos late in June, we noticed that half way through the Hawaiian trip the footage suddenly turned light, like over-exposed. By then we had the camera more than a year, but as the faulty footage happened before the 1 year was up, Sony agreed to honour the warranty. Off it went to Sony for 6 weeks. We got it back and the camera refused to recognise a recharged battery. So off it went again, this time just for 2 days. Needless to say, I am not impressed with Sony. Our previous camera was also digital, a Panasonic and it still works perfectly well 4 1/2 years later, being used by our son. What brand is your camera? australena -------------------------- Don't count the mileage, count the memories |
