What I really need to find out is the best things to do in each of the major cities: Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City and Ottawa. We have one full day in each of the cities to do what we want - so what should I do? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks again.

Hey Budster:
What are your interests? Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City and Ottawa are very cosmopolitan centres which offer a wide selection of opportunities to see and explore. For example: TORONTO: the Metro Zoo - great new African facility; Royal Ontario Museum, Art Gallery of Ontario, CN tower, Fort York, Skydome, Hockey Hall of Fame, Eaton Centre, Harbourfront and Ontario Place to name a few. MONTREAL: You have to see the old town, weekend markets on the islands, Carriage rides, Rue St. Denis, the Oratory, Mount Royal and so much more. OTTAWA: Parliament Hill and changing of the Guard, Sparks Street Mall, Rideau hall, National Gallery, War Museum, Rockport Air Museum, Science Museum. QUEBEC CITY: The last walled city in North America, QNA, wood carvers and artisans. Check with your AAA and they'll be able to supply guides to each of the cities. It really does depend on where your interests lie. I'd be glad to help you with Toronto, just let me know. Enjoy your stay. Don |

budster You also could try the "Hop on Hop off" Buses as well. I know they have them in Ottawa but not sure of the other places. You purchase the fare and it takes to all the places of interest. You can hop off at any time and catch it later.Ask about them at your hotel.Have a great trip! Chris

I took the city tour around Montreal last fall and had a good time. They offer tours in all the cities you are planning to visit. |

Hi I'm from Toronto and the above posting of the popular sights are the ones I would recommend. I would get an early start.
The Zoo is a whole day venture and is actually 45 mintues from downtown, the ROm is nice (though I haven't been there in years). The CN tower is a must see. The Eatons Centre is you enjoy shopping. But just the sight of it is nice. Fort York is just a fort. It is right down by the lake by Ontario place, thought it can get pricey with added on attractions. Any questions about Toronto just e-mail me mab525ca@yahoo.com |

I have heard a lot about the two big theater shows in Toronto: Lion King and Mama Mia. Are these two shows worth the price? Or are there other theaters in the area that have just as good shows? Thanks. (The information so far has been good on this message board.) And cannot wait to get on the road in Eastern Canada!

Hi budster,
I saw the Lion King and didn't think it was that great, but lots of people do. I preferred the movie. The opening number is amazing though. My dad saw Mamma Mia with his sister who lives in Toronto. For all his 60 years, my dad has always said he doesn't like musicals. He loved Mamma Mia! I still can't believe it. If your trip is June 8 or later, the Royal Ontario Museum has Masterpieces of the Vatican. That's what I'm going to see when I'm there for the weekend next month. |

Budster,
The CN Tower is a must see. The elevators go up the outside of it! Toronto has an entire underground city: stores, restaurants etc. Just go in to any of the major downtown hotels and look for the down escalator to check it out. Lorax |

Everyone has been helpful on this site and it is only a couple of weeks until we are on our way! What is there to do in Kingston? They have the 1000 Island Dinner Cruise planned, but it has been hard to find information regarding this city. And does any one know what kind of celebration is planned for Canada Day in Quebec City? Thanks a lot.

Budster:
Quebec City I can't help you with, sorry. Both my kids went to University in Kingston. Kingston was Canada’s first capital city. The old part of town is really an interesting place to wander around in with all the old limestone buildings dating back into the 18th and 19th century. There is a “farmer’s market” down near the lake just off Princess Street (the main drag). There is Fort Henry which was built in the early 1800’s to repel the next invasion from the south (damn yankees). CFB Kingston is the military command centre for eastern Canada. Queen’s University is one of the oldest and best in North America, despite rumours to the contrary. Check the websites for Kingston, but specify Ontario so you don’t wind up with one of the multitude of other Kingston’s spread throughout the world. Enjoy your tour. All the best Don |

Hi, Chuckster is right. I stayed in Kingston and truly enjoyed the area. Great tour of the state house. 1000 cruise is a must. There is also a wonderful old fort to visit. In Toronto the tower is a must see. There is a panoramic view from the top. Standing on the glass floor at about 750 feet off the ground gave me a strange feeling. We took pictures sitting on it, it looks as if you are floating above. Have a great time.

Hi!
In Montreal I liked their Botanical Garden. Went to the Olympic tower and from up got a view of Montreal. Walked in the downtown and the old harbor. Also went to the Mount Royal. it was good. In Toronto went to CN tower.Had dinner in 360 degree the revolving restaurant on top of C N tower. The view was great from the restaurant. In the dinner two of us ordered two main course Canadian $ 60 and since we made reservation for dinner earlier by web in 360 we did not had to pay anything for going up in the CN tower(for Skypod you will have to pay though)...so I guess it became quite cheap for us. C N tower website http://www.cntower.ca/ />Also in Tornto the lakeside was great. You can park your car and take a walk in the lakeside... Hope this helps. |

Hi. Quebec City is fantastic you will enjoy it. Make sure to visit Le Chateau Frontenac and Dufferin Terrace towards lower town (ville bas) in old Quebec. From there you can take a ride on the funicular to lower town where there are winding narrow streets filled with interesting shops.
(NOTE: at Dufferin Terrace - Try a Canadian treat called Beavertails (Queues de Castor, in French!) which is a deep fried pastry which comes with a variety of toppings. (also available in Ottawa, Montreal & TO) Some websites for more info are: www.bonjourquebec.com www.quebecregion.com http://travel.discovery.com/dest/weisdb/canada/queb/queb/attr.html |

Does any one know how the breakfasts and dinners are given through Trafalgar on this Eastern Canadian trip or any trip? Do you eat as a group or do they give you vouchers and you can eat at any time you want? Just trying to figure it out. Thanks.
