Yes there are Sandra and you will find quite a few of the local aborinal people in The Alice if you visit there.

There are also day trips out into the bush from Alice to sample original native food (such as witchity grubs) and learn about their culture Also demonstrations with boomerangs and Nulla Nullas.

Hi mlt

There are at least half a dozen art galleries in Alice Springs so I am not sure which one you are refering to.

Probably the most well known one however would have been the Panorama Guth which upstairs has a large 360 degree oil painting depicting the attractions of Central Australia.

The canvas consists of 33 pieces of Irish linen joined together by aluminium strips. It measures 20 feet (6 metres) high and 200 feet (60 metres) around - the diameter is 60 feet (18 metres). 680 kgs of paint was estimated to have been used

There was a large art gallery downstairs with many original works by Hank Guth himself (I have one hanging on my lounge room wall) however Hank Guth died on 20 July 2003 and they have been selling off his paintings.

Panorama Guth

The question of what is going to happen to Panorama Guth is still up in the air at the moment and I believe the Council in Alice are waiting on responses from the Northern Territory Government.
