Taking a tour to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas will be a full day. Some of these tours leave your hotel very early in the morning because it's a long bus ride. While you can get a discount for an internet booking, my preference would be to wait until I get to Las Vegas and see how I'm feeling about the whole thing and on which day I want to go. If you are staying on the "Strip" your hotel will have a tour desk where they can always get you a tour to the Grand Canyon. Once you decide that's what you want to do, your next toughest decision will be whether to take the tour that gets there by bus, stopping first at the Hoover Dam or whether you should take the flight to the GC.

There are quite a few websites with tour companies advertising Grand Canyon excursions. When you "google" use the key words: las vegas grand canyon tours. That way you will get the companies that specialize in trips from Vegas to the Canyon. A lot of them also have toll-free phone numbers (depending where you are calling from) if you want to make that personal connection and get your specific questions answered.

Thanks ZeldaSue! It sounds like excellent advice. I have noted there are all sorts of tours available and I can see the wait and decide method may well be the best

Hi Robertj

My husband and I spent 4 days in Vegas and loved it.

We did a day trip to the Grand Canyon - the tour wasn't quite what I expected but good.
We also did a tour to Hoover Dam - wow a huge dam and the way they built it back in the depression years was impressive. We also had a great bus driver (the best dam driver in the best dam bus....) going to the dam and he didn't shut up the whole way there and back telling us about the area, about Vegas and other bits and pieces.

On a side topic - did you know if you stayed on the strip you aren't actually staying in Vegas but in Clark County - the strip has been incorporated into a town - now if you stayed down near Circus Circus etc, then you'll be staying in Vegas (or so we were told).

There's plenty to do on the strip - we ran out of time (both free and for a fee).

We unfortunately never got to see the TI pirate show as it was cancelled due to the windy weather. Therefore, if you want to see it, go as soon as you can and that way if it is cancelled you can go back another time. We stupidly left it to the last night we were there.

There's a free lion exhibit in the MGM Grand and the lions get rotated twice a day. The best times are feeding times (but we just lucked upon feeding time).

My husband was keen to go indoor skydiving, but didn't make that either due to his work ringing him.

Depending on how you get from the airport to your hotel, you may be given tour guide information (we were given a book by the shuttle company).

Jess

Ive tried looking on the Vegas websites, but i cant find an answer to my question.

We are going to Vegas & will only be there a few days and are looking at doing a tour of the Grand Canyon & Hoover dam. For the purpose of time, we are looking at flying rather than the 10 hour plus bus trip. But lets just say, im not the best of fliers, and was wondering (stupid question, and i am blushing here Red Face) how big the planes are? I dont do small planes very well unfortunately.

Thanks Tootsiebelle.
Ive found plenty of tour options, no worries. But no tour company actually mentions the actual size of the plane. I guess ill found out when we get there and book. Thanks for the help.

Have a great time! It will be fantastic, no matter how you see it. I don't like small planes either, but this would make me go for it. Big Grin

Emstar,

The plane we went on was a 12 or 15 seater I think and they are made for viewing (eg larger windows). They had 1 seat, an aisle and then 2 seats.

I HATE small planes with a passion, but I felt safe in these ones.

You get weighed and then told where to sit on the plane. I was seated directly behind the gap looking into the cockpit - it was really cool seeing all the dials etc.

Jessles,

...." You get weighed and then told where to sit on the plane. I was seated directly behind the gap looking into the cockpit - it was really cool seeing all the dials etc"....

Im not sure if id find that a comfort or distressing! Smiler

I bite the bullet & flew in a little plane in Eygpt last year, i felt like we were in a air rubber band.By the time we arrived in our destination - 25minutes later- i was in some serious need for valium! My husband really really wants to do it though, so the things you so for love i suppose!
