Hi!

I am a single girl, 24, and I am looking to join a tour.. I am not really interested in Contiki as several friends have done these tours, and find them to be more about the drinking and shagging.. sorry, I know that is crass, but I would rather see the sites, as isnt that what you go for!

So I was wondering what age groups normally do these tours? Are they mainly couples? etc. If you could give me some advice, that would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards

Rissa of Brisbane.

Hi Rissa, welcome to the board.

Yes most of us do go to see the sites because it is a huge diverse world out there with wonderful places, people and customs to experience.

As to ages, you frequently find a majority of people in the middle age category however you also often find quite a mixture. I have had ages ranging from 6 to about 88, couples, families and singles. On one tour a couple of years back we had a guy in his 20s who proposed to his girlfriend while in a gondola in Venice. I have had snow ball fights in Austria with 3 teenagers from Singapore and raced an 84 year old gent up stairs at skijump in Scandinavia (embarassingly... he won).

The point is that irrespective of age, or whether singles, couple or families, it has been my experience that most people on the tours are out to have a good time and will mix together quite freely.

My advise is look carefully through the brochures and pick the tour that most appeals to you, then look up comments on that tour on the bulletin Board to find out other members experiences of the trip. When you are finally satisfied as to the one you want to do...... go for it. I'm sure you'll have a fabulous time if you do your research first and go with the right attitude. Smiler Smiler

By the way, if you look through the various posts on this board you will find quite a few BB members who travel as a single. In fact I expect that you will get some responses and advise from some of them fairly quickly.

Rissagirl ,
You might also want to check out the Breakaway Tours. I think they are aimed at the up to 35 year olds, if you want to travel with a younger but more mature (than Contiki) group. Smiler Smiler

Hi again Rissa, my wife just corrected me on my previous post to you. She said the youngest we have had on tour was 10 not 8 and she also said that the guy who raced me to the top of the ski jump was 90 not 84 (as for the last I say in defence of him beating me, that he was first to the top out of all of our tour group who took the climb and I did at least come second) Big Grin

Yes Rissa, I travel as a single and love it. Please myself what I want to do, where I want to go and with whom. You will never ever be left totally "alone" unless you choose to be. Age is no barrier as we are all there with a common interest. You will find yourself teaming up with others either solos or couples or families or parts of the couples/families. Go with a positive, friendly outlook and you will be fine. Even if you are the shy type, force yourself to speak to others when you meet as you will be spending the next 10 ,15, 25 or whatever days with them. do a search and you will find so many positive aspects of solo travel.

Wow!! Thanks guys, it is really appreciated. I think people that travel, like you say, they are all there for the same thing, to see the world and to have fun! So I am bound to find someone to talk to! and I am not reknown for being totally shy!

I am getting very excited, I have been to Melbourne a number of times, and love it, would live there, but havent broken the ice and gone OS.. Everytime I get close, something happens to put me back, but I figure, I am 24, not getting any younger, and I dont want to die thinking, gee I wish I had done that!

Dont feel bad about being beaten by a 90 year old.. :-) You want a real run for your money, take my grandmother shopping! It is like an extreme sport! :-)

I am thinking about doing the Manhattan Shopping Trip.. this year, and I think my mum is coming with me, Love my mum, just the same as me, a huge shopaholic! then next year I want to get serious and see Europe.

Please feel free to share more stories, I love reading your comments.

Rissa in Brisbane x.

Rissagirl,
I am not a 24 year single, but a young at heart, and I would certainly welcome a fellow Brissy to my tour - the European Festival departing London 12th June. We would certainly add something to the tour. Just a thought.

Rissagirl,
I, too, will be a solo traveling girl and am purposely NOT taking the tours for the younger crowd for just the reasons you listed...I am there to see the sights and part of the experience for me is meeting people of all ages and backgrounds. This will be my first, but I am really looking forward to it. Everyone on the BB has expressed that everyone makes the solo travelers feel very welcome. I am doing the Britan and Irelend Panorama departing USA on June 5th.....
Have a great day!

Got it in one! I had so much fun on our TT with 2 solos, they have now become my adopted daughters.

I have not done this particular tour (mainly since I live here!) but after looking at it...it looks really nice. They have you going to some great places. I have lived in Phoenix my whole life and am familiar with the area, Arizona, Las Vegas, and San Diego. I'd be happy to answer questions from anyone about the area. One thing to remember...bring sunglasses, and sun block or a hat (yes, even in September!)

Cheers!
