Welcome to the BB, Janice and Sam,

Where are you from? I am flying into Athens next week, arriving on the 10th but am doing a different tour(Aegean Odyssey). What hotel are you staying at?

There is loads of great information in the tour tales section if you can get a chance to read it but I think a combination of cash and credit card is the way to go. On my last tour our TD gave some people a bit of a hard time when they wanted to use their travellers cheques. In the end though, I think he did but it was a bit of a hassle.

Hope you have a great time!

Making every second count.

thanks for info -- I believe we are planning
on cash / credit/debit and if they will take
them, the traveler's checks. Just don't
want to get there and can't "go shopping"

We are from Catlin, Il. (120 miles straight
south of Chicago./

Enjoy your trip

thanks for info. I am getting the feeling
that travelers' checks aren't the way to
go!. We are convering US funds when we
get to the airport in Athens -

We have never been on this type of tour before
(we travel extensively in US -- but not much
out of the country -- this will be an experience
for us - My husband will celebrate his birthday on September 11th - so we do plan on having
fun.

I will send you a note upon our return to let
you know what we thought. Thanks again

farm country!

I would advise not taking travellers cheques. They are so very hard to cash, if at all. Stick with a little Euro to start with and utilise credit and debit cards.

We had a marvelous time --- After a long overnite flight - arrived at 10:30 a.m. in Athenia (!!!), and the tour director
was there to meet us - filled a bus and headed into the city. The hotel was wonderful - food was good - and the
Travalgar employees were so very nice. We had Anna Zona (i believe that is her last name) as the guide on the entire
tour, and she was amazing. Not a lot of free time - but we didn't do any of the small excursions they offered, we
chose those times to explore on our own... On Monday, we had all afternoon, and except for a 45 minute get together,
we had all evening to ourselves -- The "cafe area" was very nice, and so are the cafes' on the street right beside
the Parthenon..... We used the "ATM" machines, and the exchange rates are current when you do that, so you do get
a better rate. We did have a "world mobile" phone, which we got through Verizon, and since it was our regular cell
phone number we were able to get phone calls from our children and business without problem. No one on the trip
had traveler's ch. I think that everyone has figured out they are pretty much useless!. Also, so many of the shops
don't have a lot of money available for change -- they really don't like to see anything much more than a 20 Euro bill..

It was hot when we were there (95 to 102), shorts, t-shirts and good walking shoes. When we visited the Monasteries
ladies had to have sleeves on tops (or a shawl) a skirt ... men had to wear long pants... However, just in case you
don't have they - each monastery we visited did have wrap-arounds you could use.

.... We took a digital camera and several disposable camera's ... Got the photos printed already and they are great
Also, buy the books and post cards at each stop. they are reasonable (1 to 2 euro's for cards) and so very nice to
have when you get home. ENJOY - ENJOY AND STAY SAFE SAM AND JAN FROM CATLIN, ILLINOIS
