Hi Julika,
welcome to the BB but if you are looking for people who are on a (past) tour, scroll down to meeting friends before/after travel, and post there. This may help you find them easier.
I went on the Best of France in June and had a great time, would like to hear your thoughts if you completed this tour.

Making every second count.

I loved the tour. I went with my son and we just had a fantastic time. I am ready to travel again. I have the travel bug. My husband on the other hand has no desire to travel....after 34 years of asking i stopped asking....anyways been through hell the last year ( loss of my mother) was devastating to me...i wanted to die ...but i went to a shrink she talked with me briefly...and said yes you are depressed but "it is what it is" you cannot bring her back...i landed up in a car wash crying....oh yes by the way she gave me tranquilizers and some sleeping pills for a month...what can i say i through out the tranquilizers and took the sleeping pills for one month ...a voila a year later i am still here.....look everybody travels for different reasons....and life goes on...julika

Julika,
losing your parents is tough, especially your mother and it doesn't matter how much time has gone by or how old you were when it happens. The pain is there but yes life does go on.
When I lost my own mother years ago, that is when I resolved to enjoy my time to the fullest, and this included travelling.

My husband is unable to go as often as I do, and I usually am able to find someone to travel with. For my last two trips, I travelled single and did just fine. I am going on another trip in September by myself again, and I am confident that I will manage just as well.

Life is much too short not to enjoy it.

Making every second count.

I felt so sorry for you being so sad that your mother died. My mother died 4 years ago and most of the time I am very happy that she is now at peace and with dad. I never feel sad on the anniversary of her death, but think what a lovely mum I had. We all act in different ways and accepting that death is final is very hard for some people. Frowner Smiler Hope you have a smile on your face now.

Julika, I am sorry for your loss. I lost both of my parents when I was only in my 20s and they were only in their mid 60s. They dedicated their lives to raising a family and saving money for retirement. They got the family but never got to enjoy their retirement. My mother was never even on a plane! They are my inspiration for travelling because I am determined that by the time I retire (which is a long way away), I will have seen the world.

Even if your son can't go with you next time, go by yourself. Lots of people travel solo on tours. I've done it five times now and had a blast! I travel in North America with friends and family but when I go on tours overseas, I actually prefer to go alone. But you are never truly alone on a tour, that's the beauty of it.

I hope you find some of your tourmates here but don't be surprised if you don't. But we are all really friendly here so stay with us!

julika ~ I am sorry for your loss. Frowner

I really admire you for not being put off traveling because your husband chooses not to. I have a neighbour whose husbands goal is to never have a passport, she would love to travel & moans because he won't go. So good for you for getting out & seeing the world.

Happy planning for your next adventure. Smiler

Dimpz, how sad that your neighbour is letting her no-wish-to-travel husband hold her back. I have no doubt you have tried to convince her to go alone. It's hard to take that first step - it took 18 months for me to get up the nerve to book my first solo tour (I am very shy) but within a few days of my first tour, I was hooked and never looked back.

I probably would never have gone alone on a tour if I hadn't already been on a tour.
I travelled the first time with my son who was 20 at the time. I probably never would have taken a tour at all, since I wanted to travel with the whole family to Scandinavia. The whole thing seemed daunting as I knew that it is not easy to find accomodation in the fjord region of Norway, we had had problems many years earlier. So I did the easy thing, a tour. I was very apprehensive about it. However my kids are not fond of regimented tours and my husband is not an enthusiastic traveller. So I went solo to Turkey and enjoyed it tremendously. I also am shy and usually not very talkative which might appear as unfriendly.

Jeannie, Marie & Dalene ~ She has a whole bunch of sisters that travel together & try to encourage her. Apparently he has a fit of the sulks if she pushes the issue too much. Mad

Tell you what ladies, that attitude would only encourage me even further to go! Eeker
