Quite bright nation, 8 past midnight to wait up and see the start of the opening ceremony Eeker. As you probably know 8 is a very special number in China so I suppose they wanted a truly cultural experience for their games.

What I don't understand though is, ..why are they on about this starting the games at eight minutes past eight, on the eighth day of the eighth month 2008 ??
Down here, we're about four hours advanced of Beijing, and the opening ceremoney begins around midnight live on TV.
In my book, that's 20-00 hours ! Not EIGHT !! Razzer

The opening was spectacular wasn't it? The Kiwi's shirts were striking - black with the big fern. I didn't like RSA's colour white - I expected something more original. The flag bearer of Namibia, cyclist Mannie Heymans, is a close friend of ours. Wonder how the heat and the humidity will affect the athletes. Smiler

Dalene: I couldn't believe the horrible Canadian uniforms--much controversy here over who the contract was awarded to--but as one commentator said this morning, they looked as if they'd just come from a backyard bbq, no sense of occasion at all. My husband said it looked like someone had spilled ketchup and they couldn't quite bleach it out. Wink Oh well, the flag and its bearer were nice--he looks even nicer without his shirt on and they keep publishing a picture of him like that taken in practice. Sure spices up my coffee in the morning. Big Grin Wink

Yes Brenda, I noticed that RSA and Canada looked very similar and very boring! But I can't get over RSA's shocking green croc shoes with their white uniforms ... horrendous! Hmm yes, some of the male flag bearers were so good-looking. Big Grin

Hi, Great to see the NZ Warriors get a win against the Brisbane broncos last nlght. What do any of you think about Sonny Bill Williams going to Rugby in France .Be great to see him playing for the all blacks as a centre in the future. He is a true Kiwi so if they want him he said he will play.He used to play rugby league for the Bulldogs in Australia as many of our kiwi boys do. GO THE ALL BLACKS IN SOUTH AFRICA Kathy

I was proud of our Kiwi contingent, thought they looked great. Was surprised to see the Aussies in blue. The opening was spectacular but I'm afraid I got too sleepy to watch anymore once the athletes had come out.
I was wondering how they will cope with the heat too. We were there exactly 2 years ago and it was so hot that we struggled in the afternoons to keep going. A cold bottle of water became HOT within 15mins. Eeker
Good luck to your cyclist friend, Dalene, I saw a glimpse last night of the stunning scenery they are competing in. Imagine competing in the Olympics with the Great Wall in full view!

Yes, from me too All Blacks. A hard game and a little confusion here and there with the new rules. When you play against the other nations I always support you!!! Smiler
