Have you tried clicking on

3/ Private Messaging

Does this take you to the PM page?

Yes, that's the way I try to go in, those three steps, and while I can get the page of PMs I've received I cannot get the new PM button above the page to hold onto a screen. C'est un mystique, non?

Bren
p.s. just tried it again, a blong sound from my computer, and the screen flashes but won't stay.

TTWeb,

I've recently reached the "regular member" status and I'm wondering how to get my Private Message capability turned on. Help?

Hi CoastalJen,

You should now be able to use the Private Messaging feature.

Hi. I have a board protocol question but I wasn't 100% sure where to ask it. I hope this venue is okay. If not, I'll happily move the query wherever it's supposed to go.

When a thread is at a point where the originator (or the moderator for that matter) is satisfied with the responses, does the originator request it to be closed off or does it ever get left open for other posters to continue an active exchange? Or does it stay active until lack of interested posters drive it downward?

If the originator requests it to be closed down (so that another thread can be started), is that done here? Or how?

I'm assuming one active thread at a time for any member is the limit?

I apologize if this info was in an FAQ somewhere, or if these questions seem well anal-retentive. I looked around a little but couldn't locate the answers. Probably overlooked something...?

Trying to learn the rules of the road, so to speak. No excuses, but it's been a major-stress week and all. Really need a vacation badly.

Patience. Breathe. Going to a safe place now.

E-Man

Hi E-Man,

You certainly don't have any limit as to the number of threads you can start - generally, if you have multiple questions, it's better to ask each one in a separate thread; that way it's easier for everyone to keep track of things.

Threads, generally speaking, don't get formally closed; they just die a natural death when everyone's said everything that is appropriate to be said on a subject. Normally, the only time a thread would be closed would be if Bruno felt that it was straying into areas which were inappropriate for discussion on TT's bulletin board, or if the board rules were being violated (eg by personal abuse of other members).

Being the originator of a thread doesn't give one any special "powers" to request its closure; all board members are free to participate in any discussions that they wish, and other people will very often keep a thread active long after the original questioner has had his or her question answered.

Threads very often do stray from the original topics, just like any other conversation between people does. When a thread no longer interests you, just ignore it.

All the best,

Chris

Well that nails it down quite nicely. I see how it all works much more clearly now. Great response. Thanks for indulging my newbie questions. Hope too many eyes didn't roll...

Appreciatively,

E-Man
