I noticed after a certain time had gone by that people were starting to drag, and unfortunately when they don't feel well or lose their initial excitement, they begin to complain. There was a large number of people who were going on to other tour destinations, some were looking forward to them and others just wanted to go home. I found two weeks long enough as I was missing my loved ones,my house and my own bed.
I thought of you when we were travelling, but don't recall ever seeing an Insight tour bus. Are you going to do a tour tale on the Insight BB as I would love to hear how it differed from the tour in France with Trafalgar?

I will not do a tour tale as Rita has written an excellent one. She travelled a few weeks before us and had the same excellent TD.
We spent more time in Provence and then headed north more through the interior. We saw a lot of small hilltop towns. The pace was probably more leisurely, thoough I found it quite busy since we signed up for most optionals. We left between 8.30 and 9 am in the mornings with many 9 am departures.

Marie,
your tour sounds very nice. I enjoyed the small villages like St.Paul de Vence and St. Emilion. We also visited Beynac in the Dordogne, but I think you went to Sarlat? I remember seeing a sign posting the distance to Sarlat, and thinking about you there. Since you have been to France more often, what is your favourite part?

Making every second count.

thank you for your tour tale. I have never really seen the appeal in France but after reading this, I am excited to see it when I go on my tour. I am also excited to taste real French fois gras.

Hi Dimpz,

I visited Giverny in 2003 and the only reason i stopped taking phots was i ran out of film - I hadn't gone digital back then - I plan to go back and with a digital camera the photos could be in the thousands Big Grin

HI KW,

I finally got the chance to read your entire tour tale! Oh, it was so wonderful to relive my memories of BOF last July through you!

I can't believe your scary experience in Bordeaux! I even went out to a bar while I was there, but I guess I was lucky to have grouped myself up with a bunch of people in going out. I can't believe how you took that in stride - I think I would've majorly freaked!

Bummer about the issues between your TD and driver - that must've made things a little tense.

Otherwise, there were a lot of similarities between your tour and mine. I miss France so much, and after being in Italy, I miss it even more! Italy was nice, but France IS IT for me. So, thanks for taking the time to write the tale - it was wonderful, indeed!

Kitchen Wench, I have finally been able to finish reading your wonderful report. It brought back a lot of great memories of my BOF last year but there were a lot of differences the last few days of your tour. Goes to show you how much lattitude the TDs have.

Thanks Jeannie,
it's hard to believe that I've been home for several weeks now and I miss France dreadfully.
I am so envious of travellers heading that way and look forward to reading their tour tales.(Nitsy, Caitie)
Yes, I was surprised at the difference in optionals from those published online,in the brochure, and those actually offered by our TD.
All very good and most enjoyed them.

Kitchen Wench: We just had a bit of a scare regarding our upcoming trip to France. The TA called and said that the airline had no record of our booking. Thankfully it is all sorted out and confirmed now. Whew! We`re very much looking forward to the trip. France gets under your skin, doesn`t it? Smiler I don`t know if I will do a tour tale this time, as this is an itinerary I`ve already done once before and so I already have a tour tale on it. There have been some very slight changes to the itinerary so I largely expect the experience to be about the same this time. Twenty-nine days to go!

Caitie,
the shock of being told there was no record of your airline booking would have made me sick but I am glad that everything is cleared up now.
Maybe you can tell them there was another person on the booking that got missed and I can tag along...

Nice try, KW. Smiler You are welcome to tag along any time. I try to go to France as often as possible because - you know - I just can`t stay away. I am always looking for a travel buddy (ladies only, I`m afraid) because I have more time to travel than my husband does.

It`s actually worse to have an airline problem than to have a TT booking problem. Replicating the itinerary is at least doable, but once you`ve lost the air, you`re up the creek without a paddle. I don`t know why the airline told the TA that our booking didn`t exist. When my husband called, they had no problem finding it.

Caitie ~ You have had your share of bad luck, hopefully only good things will happen from now on. Smiler

I wonder if many people turn up to an airport only to find they don't have a booking. That would be devastating especially if you were a first time traveller and had been looking forward to your holiday for a long time.
