I believe I stated the Ephesus was a must see, and if you really could only afford one optional, that is the one to go for.

Mrs. Toad: I understood that. Sorry if my reply was misleading. I meant to say that for lovers of antiquity, I thought that Knossos, too, was a must-see. Anyone with an interest in antiquity would want to see Knossos regardless of its present condition. For anyone with no prior interest, though, it's all pretty much a pile of stones and could be skipped. Greece attracts all kinds of visitors and not all are equally interested in archaeology.

Catie, I understand. I overheard one tour member (on the land tour) muttering "I can't believe I got up at 6AM just to see another pile of rocks." And this was at Mycenae!

Excuse me, but didn't she read the tour info? We chose it specifically so we could see all of those "piles of rocks."

But it became obvious that not all of the people were that interested in history.

I've also heard people say they were "ruined out" in Greece, and had to wonder what it was that drew them there in the first place. Maybe just the weather? Who knows. It takes all kinds, I guess. Smiler

It sure does. Some people go to Europe just to say they were there and can brag about it when they get home. You gotta wonder what goes through some people's heads when book a coach tour. How about the people who say "I didn't realize we were going to spend so much time on a bus." Confused

A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

We saw "Mamma Mia" (the movie) last week, and we can't wait to see the Greek isles !!!

The movie was shot in Greece... does anybody know if those islands are actually part of TT packages ??

Apparently, many scenes were shot in Santorini, which was on the tour.

If Santorini was a camera location, check out Nation's photos in teh Gallery! They were taken on a 2005 tour, but were loaded - yesterday? Today? They are Fantastic!

From what I read recently, Santorini was not the Mama Mia location - it was one of the less well know islands but I can't remember which one.

I found that on the tour I did last year, there seemed to be one or two couples who were doing the tour not for the history, the scenery, the atmosphere but more to be able to go home and say they had been to the places.. they showed no real interest in actually seeing them Confused Confused

Folly,

Unfortunately there are far too many people like that on tour - it's their own business of course, but I often scratch my head and wonder why on earth they are wasting all that time and money. Beats me !!!

I wonder why they don't just pretend to have been places and save their money!!

I heard it was filmed on some of the Sporades Islands - Skiathos and Skopelos, I think. It looked beautiful didn't it!

The trip to Ephesus was a must do. The trip to Knossos could be skipped. If you don't do the optional Rhodes tour, you won't get to see a very nice temple, but the Medieval Fort and Old Town are within easy walking distance from the dock. many people skipped bot of the above mentioned, for a bit of a sleep in, and a day "alone."

The only time my husband wore a jacket and tie was on "formal" night, and about 1/4 of the men did not have a jacket. Some men wore very nice dark dressy shirts (made of silk)and matching pants, and looked very comfortable without looking sloppy. I wore a long black crinkle skirt and black tank top, but dressed it up with some nice, Greek silver jewelry, nice sandals, and a sheer, black, sequin trimmed stole. Many women wore dressy white or black pants with a knit top trimmed with sparklies.

Our water was never restricted, but we were asked to try not to waste it. The water in Athens, and most towns on the tour, tasted better t5han what I can get at home, and we had no ill effects. We were advised to drink bottled water while on the cruise; the water in the dining was fine, but not from the tap.

Were going to Italy on the Italian Discovery tour in Oct. We've been to Europe before and have been with Trafalgar before..My questions on this tour, what are the excursion tours and how did you like St. John Hotel?

Santorini and Patmos are two other islands well worth a visit motorhomer.
All the water on the islands is shipped in. No island has a natural resource, and it rarely rains there.

Don't leave town , till you've seen the country.
