If it is the Eruopean Spree scheduled to depart on September 27th it is indeed a Guaranteed Departure. I have bee cancelled on this one as well. What accomodations will thay make if it is a "Guaranteed Departure?"

What? Another tour cancelled and a Guaranteed one at that! Eeker I suggest that you talk to your TA quick smart to and find alternative arrangements. The Ta should be able to liase with TT and organise something for you.

Since we found out about the cancellation late last week we have been in frequent contact with the TA. In our case the tour is being arranged through Brendan Vacations who work jointly with Trafalgar. The last contact we had the TA indicated they wanted to put us on the European Whirl. This is an acceptable substitute however this new tour is 14 days as opposed to 9 days for the European Spree. Our original plans were to spend 5 days with relatives in England after the tour. With the time constraints we have, our visit may only be 1.5 days. This new tour is also 1 week earlier than the original tour so Brendan/Trafalgar will have to eat any of the airline penalties.

LOL Johnps, we must have posted at the same time. Smiler

It's bad when the GD are cancelled as so many of us rely on them, due to arranging things prior and or after the tour, like meeting family/friends, having other tours organised or time constraints due to work or other committments back home. It throws the whole thing up in the air! Frowner

Johnps ~ I am so sorry to hear your Guaranteed tour has been cancelled, although I am very pleased to hear that Trafalgar is working with your TA to arrange to get you on another tour, unfortunately in these very uncertain economic times, these things do happen.

The European Whirl is a great tour, I hope everything works out for you. Smiler

There really doesn't seem any point in having guaranteed departures any more if so many GD's are being cancelled. My tour was GD but I didn't relax until the 50 day cut off. Mad

SoloT ~ I completely understand how you feel, but, these Guaranteed tours were decided well over twelve months ago and way before the economic downturn. Trafalgar have no choice, they cannot run a tour without people and people are cancelling because of the economy.

This would be affecting many tour operators not just Trafalgar.

Well like I"ve said before, I won't book another TT so far ahead and will have to think hard about booking with TT again as we both work and any deviation from a planned tour can be a nightmare. To be honest, I will also scan any other company to try and see how they deal with cancellations. Many of us are in the same situation, I wonder how many might have been turned off booking due to these cancellations? (rhetorical question as we will never know Smiler)

Cheers

jewel ~ Herein lies the whole crux of the matter. It is not a case of when good tours go bad Wink more a case of how does the company handle a bad situation.

G.D.'s have been cancelled long before these sad economic times, admittedly not in these proportions, but it has been asked all along why call a guarantee when it is clearly not? The choice of name is somewhat misleading.

I do feel that, from what I have read of late, TT seems to be doing their utmost to come to the party, & make things the best they can for the client.

BTW not booking too early can be a double edged sword. We delayed booking our U.S. TT & then couldn't get the date we wanted. Frowner

What exactly are you talking about? what GD tours have been cancelled in the past that are not associated with the economic downturn. Confused

Oh yes, this was a guaranteed departure trip. That was one of the reasons I booked. I was super confident that my trip would go off without a hitch. GD obviously means nothing-at least these days.

Also, with regards to other tours offered, TT did offer me the european whirl but i cant do that as I have 2 jobs and getting the time off with the part time job is a night mare. I booked my trip in February to avoid problems with getting the time off and because of the GD. I cant just rebook time off whenever as I have to consider my other collegues at the full time job.
I will make other arrangements for another tour but I felt too pressured to make one quickly so TT will refund my $ and I will look at another tour. I am thinking next time a regional instead. Who knows.....
