Judy: I've always wondered how they monitor that. Probably they can't and rely on their employees' habits which may or may not be hygienic. Listen, when I think of how much contaminated produce there has been this past couple of years, it makes going to the market quite an adventure. Eeker

Anybody see that Seinfeld episode with Poppy and his pizza joint? If you remember it, then I don't need to say anything!

People who prepare or serve food should wear gloves and not handle money...IMHO.

I'm afraid to say that wearing gloves does not necessarily make a great deal of difference. You can still blow your nose, cross contaminate foods and everything else you can do when not wearing gloves. In fact people may actually wash their hands more frequently when not wearing gloves. I suspect we just "think" it is more hygenic.

I do know a chef who, whenever any of his brigade left the kitchen, for whatever reason, made them wash their hands as soon as they re-entered the kitchen. I freely admit it did give me a lot of comfort as I regularly ate food prepared from that kitchen. How other chefs handle (or not) that situation I have no idea & think ignorance is perhaps bliss.

Be aware that good hygeine and safe food preparation practices are alive and well in my kitchen. Everything has to be spot on as it is my good name if someone should get sick eating something I prepared. I would be devestated as well. When we get someone new in the kitchen, if their sanitation practices aren't up to snuff, they do not last long.

Making every second count.

Where we vaction in South Carolina each eating establishment has a "grade" posted outside the restaurant...we felt comfortable eating in places which earned a grade of "A".

Commercial hygiene entails a lot of work. When one of my sons picked up a job at Pizza Hut, he was appalled at our own kitchen! I didn't want to discourage him, so took on the extra time and expense (well, not entirely - I refused to wear a clean plastic head covering whenever I cooked) for some years. It was interesting to see how his standards dropped when he moved out, and had to do his own cooking!

Well I don't think too many use the toilet with gloves on so seeing them on gives me some comfort against fecal contamination. I always think..."what if that guy just came out of the toilet?!?... Eeker" Nothing is a sure thing, but it helps. I guess docs and nurses use them for a reason as well. Smiler

I know the theory is that wearing gloves is much more hygienic, but unfortunately the reality is not always so. The answer is in education of the wearer to use them correctly and there should be consequences if they do not. Of course we would expect medical people to live by the rules, but I have seen food handlers do all sorts of things with the gloves still on. Needless to say, I will not eat at places where I have seen unhygienic practices.

On a 15 day tour of Spain, Portugal and Morocco (ugh), a woman and her husband wore the same clothes EVERY day. They also refused to move from THEIR seat. (the seats opposite the back door, so they were always the first 2 off the bus. I never understood my the tour director allowed them to choose their seats while everyone else had to rotate.

Oh great. I suppose the TD could have insisted, talked to them privately but would you have wanted the stench of the same clothes every day in every seat Eeker? I will never get over some people's bad manners and social boorishness.

Hi &&&& ~ We are visiting Spain, Portugal & Morocco next year & I am interested in any info I can get. Could you please tell me why you have put 'ugh' after Morocco or is the 'ugh' referring to the whole tour? Confused

Thanks in advance Cool
