Has anyone been on Nile Cruise in June when the Esna Lock was closed?Did it effect the itinerary?
Also what is the temperature at night? We know we will have high temps during day but will we need to have jackets for evenings? Would appreciate any info. First trip to Egypt. |

ha...it would be a real sucky cruise if you spent that much time in your cabin.
But yea, the AC on the boat is quite efficient and powerful. |

It had better be in June. Hardly the ideal time of year to visit Egypt

Chris,
Anytime is a good time to travel;beats going to work. Coming from the land downunder the heat won't bother us as much as you northern folk. Here it is second month of Autumn and I am still swimming at the beach - temps 25+deg celsius. |

25 degrees is OK. It's when it hits 50+ (as it's likely to in June) that I'd personally struggle. As you say, though, coming from a hot country you'll be able to handle it a lot better than I would.
I understand that during the Summer months they'll arrange most of the sightseeing activities for very early in the morning to avoid the worst heat of the day. Chris |

We are due to leave 2nd June, very beginning of Summer I thought. Hoping it wouldn't be too hot like say in July/August. I've read they have very early starts, that's what is worrying me more than the heat!!!!!!
Have you been to Egypt? |

Yes, many years ago - a wonderful Nile Cruise with Thomas Cook. That was in December, which is "high season" for Egypt. Max temps are in the mid 20s at that time of year.
I probably was exagerating to say 50C in June; that's what it reaches in mid Summer; say late July/Aug. I can't stand the heat - anything over 30 and I'm done for. I know that for many, 30 degree temps are merely pleasantly warm. Chris |

Hi Cat's Inheritance, glad to see you're an honorary aussie, we can always do with a few more in the land of oz.
I thought June being the first month of their summer would be slightly lower temps than say late July/August. Anyway I don't care, I've been waiting for a long time to go and finally got Mr S.K.I. to agree to the trip. I think the dry heat will be a bit better than the humidity we get in summer. We have temps in high 30s and sometimes 40s but with high humidity. As was said earlier, the trips are done in early morning and then back to the boat. I will let you know what I thought when I return. |

Hi S.K.I.
According to http://www.worldclimate.com/cgi-bin/data.pl?ref=N24E032+1200+0027072G2 the average maximum temperature for Aswan in June is 41.9 as opposed to 41.7 in July. The average of the average 24 hour temperaturee is 33.5 in June and 33.9 in July. According to the 17 years' data on http://www.weatherbase.com/weather/weather.php3?s=41426&refer=&units=metric the avg. high temperature in Aswan is 39 in both June and July, and the highest recorded temperatures are 47 in both months. Other sites have different numbers, but they're all hot! Hope you enjoy yourself. |

Thanks Mallee,
These are something like the temps you people in Adelaide had recently!!! Hope you survived without getting fried!! I will check those websites. I am expecting hot temps but as I said we had to go in June and I will put up with the heat to see Egypt. I do think we aussies cope better with the heat than those from more temperate climates. We are also going over to the Sinai to do some snorkelling after the tour, so wanted weather to swim and snorkell. Have read someone said, earlier in the year was too cool for swimmimg etc. I just can't wait. |

Oh SKI, as someone said in another post - it would be a dull old world if we were all the same! You can have your hot weather. I don't enjoy it, but the seasons change eventually, and we've had rain and really cold weather lately, and it's awful to see all the poor little primary school kids hunched into their coats and jackets, but still shivering miserably on their way to school.
"Snorkelling in Sinai" was a new one on me, so, thanks to you, SKI, I've just wasted a couple of hours reading throught Egyptian travel blogs. Fascinating, but weird. Good luck! |

PS: Have you looked all the old tour tales about Egypt? Some of them are very moving. If all else fails, do a find on 'Aswan' Cheers |

Hi Malle,
Yes I have read all the tour tales and have even downloaded some so Mr S.K.I. could read them too and get enthused. I was never one for spending time on the internet but since finding this site I am spending lots of time researching and reading. I have to fight my daughter for time on the computer now!!! She is quite put out. Family thinks I've become obsessed However, I am still looking for someone who has done a cruise down/up the Nile in June when they say the Esna Lock is closed. |

If you go as far south as Abu Simbel it will probably be 50 C. We went in November and it was very hot even then. I asked the TD what they did when it was hotter. The answer was that they go very early in the morning. I see from another post that your tour is not guaranteed. The good news is that our TD said he once did an Insight tour in Egypt with only two people. |

Hi Joe d,
Thanks for the good news about the weather!!! My tour does have a tour guarantee, however as has been discussed elsewhere on the BB, some people with TG have had their tour cancelled. So a TG does not always mean they will proceed. It is good to know Insight ran a tour with only two people, hope TT do the same. My TA checked with TT and they said usually Egypt tours run. My count down is on. |
