We have done five river cruises with ages ranging from mid twenties to 87.

Not all river cruises are relaxing, cruising in Asia during the Monsoon can be very demanding and land transport can be very different from the Coach you will get in Europe.

When you travel, remember that a foreign country is not designed to make you comfortable. It is designed to make its own people comfortable.

I have been on several river boat cruises and generally the people on these cruises are age wise from the 50s to 80s. I have never seen children on any of the river boat cruises that I have been on. The out and out favorite one which we have taken is a cruise that went from Vienna to Amsterdam - it was for 14 days. It was relaxing (more so if you didn't take any of the included tours at each stop - but why wouldn't you?) and the beautiful countryside was outstanding. The other cruises we have take included ones from the Black Sea to Budapest, another from Basel to Antwerp and a five day cruise on the Yangtse River.River boat cruising is the way to go as far as I am concerned...it is great Smiler

NYJudy What time of the year did you do the cruise from Vienna to Amsterdam? We are looking at next summer after our youngest graduates from high school.

mlt - we travel in the late autumn - usually November - lower prices and fewer people! We have yet to be disappointed travelling at that time of the year.

Unless I can swing my teaching term to summer instead of fall, that is not possible for me. Maybe after the youngest graduates. I would like to travel at the non peak season. It is usually cooler than too for a fair number of places we would still like to see. Otherwise I guess we wait for retirement. Frowner
