Dimpz, if you're going with the 94-year olds, I think they fly first class, in wide-seated comfort.

Thanks for the link, Cottontail.

Mallee ~ I can't tolerate anything to do with 'The Sound of Music'. My most recent experience was being trapped on a TT coach while the TD played the DVD, it was 12 months ago & I don't think I have recovered. Eeker

Now what had you done to deserve that purgatory, Dimpz? We had a great TD on our SOM tour - he played the CD (NOT the DVD) and the few who wanted to listen for the half hour or so that it was on had to sit in the front seats in order to hear it.

Is there anything in particular that you don't like? The music? The story? The acting? The lack of authenticity (as in it's not factually correct)?

I hadn't seen for movie for 45 years, but I loved the scenery - and Julie Andrews' singing - and I'd rate it as being no worse than other films of that era. Bearable, in 45-year bites. (Tho' I must confess that I was ready to see the best of everything on that tour! Oh, it was so schön!)

When doing our Highlights of New Europe tour last year, the TD said he was putting the sound of music on. I told my daughter to turn on her mp3 player and put her earphones in straight away and leave them in until I gave her the all clear. She dislikes that movie with a passion [i'm not sure why] and has decided that she would never go to Salzburg for that very reason. This year my husband and I are going through Salzburg and are doing a tour of Sound of Music as part of our tour. This is one part of our tour that my daughter is more than happy that she does not have to suffer. I really don't mind and will just go with the flow. I'll be sure to tell her every little detail when we get home[I don't think so]. I know there is a sound of music tour. People have different tastes. cheers deedee

I love the Sound of Music and I suspect so do many people, otherwise Trafalgar would not have named a tour after it. Wink

Austria is such a beautiful part of the world regardless whether the movie was filmed there or not, Salzburg is a wonderful town with lots of history of its own.

LOL Big Grin dede your daughter obviously has great taste, I read the biography of the family von Trapp when I was about 13 & loved it. The movie is saccharine sweet & bears only the bare bones to the fact. I think more should read the book instead of taking for gospel the schmaltz that is dished out.

Leaving that aside The Highlights of New Europe tour is a wonderful TT & everything we saw was an absolute treat. I am more than sure you & your husband will enjoy your next TT. Smiler

(but do make sure you tell daughter all in great detail Wink )

Thanks Dimpz, we are going on the same tour as Jewel in just over 3 weeks and am looking forward to meeting her and hubby. My daughter said that she is sure that they would even play sound of music tracks in the cafes etc in Salzburg and couldn't take the risk!!!! We're been told by some people to take the experience as a bit of fun. Even went to see a comedian the other night and he made a joke about going the Salzburg to see the sound of music places on a footy trip!! He then started singing a couple of the songs. I almost died laughing. cheers deedee

dede ~ Of course you must take it as a bit of fun. Why wouldn't you? Away from chores & experiencing so many new & wonderful things. I happily admit I do like the music to the 'Sound of Music' & find myself humming it for days after. All I objected to was being stuck in a coach with the DVD playing & yes, other womens voices would have been preferable Wink

How serendipitous for you & jewel to be touring together, I am sure she is a lot of fun. I can't wait to hear all when you both return Smiler

3 weeks will fly - time to start counting sleeps Cool

I know how she feels. It's completely unreasonable, but I've been put off Paris by Maurice Chevalier, and Rome by 'Three Coins in a Fountain', whqtever movie that came from. So why do we give into unreason, you may ask? Because we enjoy a little childish rebellion, I expect. Thyere are lots of other places to see, anyway.

Too true Mallee, my daughter is going to Hong Kong in November [no sound of music there]. I really don't know what her problem with Sound of Music is but we are all different and that's what makes it so interesting. Apologies to all Sound of Music fans out there. But I'm looking forward to the scenery.cheers deedee

Have no fear Smiler In 7 coach tours, the TD only tried to "entertain" us once. Although the driver usually had on quiet background music daily. Easy to tune out if necessary
