Oh Missie, that sounds like so much fun, mapping out your own "tour" based on family history thru Ireland....

Hi Temery,

Yes I am hoping it will be, my daughter wants to come with me and will take long service leave as she has always wanted to visit Ireland, we can take our time doing this, we will do a coach tour of Britain then move onto our own thing in Ireland.

On our way home I thought we would stop in Thailand for a week, my daughter has just returned from a trip to Thailand and fell in love with the people and surroundings. Smiler

They probably want to pack as much in as possible after such a long flight from Oz, but I wonder how they handled the second tour when they were already so very tired.

Hi margaretc,

Most people I know who do long tours are exhausted or sick at the end of it. I agree Australia is a long way from Europe so we do need to pack in as much as possible.

When you do your first tour you are so excited the tiredness of travel combined with a long tour and early mornings just doesn't enter your mind, it is only after your first tour do you start to readjust your way of thinking to accommodate all that your body is put through so you can still enjoy the sights in Europe. Welcome back Spooky. We had friends come to Adelaide from Newcastle last week and had a very busy time taking them to various places.

Thank you for the welcome.

I have just returned from a little getaway with Mr Walnut to Melbourne. We had a fantastic time accommodation was excellent & the flights down & back were with Tiger Airlines, little brother to Singapore Airlines. It was one of the $10 fares on offer when they first started here in Oz. I rate then on all kinds of things & the pilots had the best landings. pity they won't be flying in & out of Newcastle as of next month.
As we lined up to check in on our return, they made an announcement that if anyone had made their booking after a certain date they would be charged $13 per kilo of checked or hand luggage. Lucky us with our $10 fare we had $15 kilos each to use & use then we did. They did allow 7 kilos for hand luggage. $13 per kilo shocked me.

Jenno what part of Newcastle were your friends from????

Spooky ~ Was the $13 per kilo for excess weight on checked luggage, or for each kilo of checked luggage. Confused

Both, when I booked they included 15kgs each but now it's hand luggage only of 7kgs & no more. They weigh the hand luggage & you pay for any extra. If you check out the bookings online, most have it as hand luggage only now. When you book with Tiger, Jetstar etc you have the option to purchase kgs this can be the cheaper option. One of the ladies I work with did this with Jetstar, he prepurchased 15kgs for $15 when she booked online.

Virgin is charging $8 for a 23kg checked bag but only if you pre purchase the voucher online, otherwise you have to pay $20 at the airport as you check in. Frowner
