I think Bob is referring to the quote about England and America being two nations separated by a common language.
Similar observations were made by Oscar Wilde,
Bertrand Russell, Winston Churchill and Dylan Thomas at one time or another.

Yup, Caitie, we're on the same wavelength. George Bernard Shaw: "England and America are two countries separated by a common language."

I remember, in the very early days of this board, when the subject of wearing "Fanny packs" came up. I think we need to "cut some slack," and allow for the possibility that some may not be aware that that a particular word may have a duo meaning. The word objected to this morning is benign, where I come from.

It wasn't untilI looked it up that I realized it was taboo, in the UK. Knowing that, I probably wouldn't use it on this board, not as a requirement, but rather, as courtesy.

Bob

We also refer to selling the Bridge, in this case it is Sydney Harbour Bridge to which we refer or else we offer the buyer Tasmania Big Grin

I wonder, is it used in the same context?

In our case (mostly New York) it implies naivete, and goes back to an old joke where a stereotypical "quick-talking" New Yorker offers to sell the Brooklyn Bridge to an unsuspecting visitor, (also stereotypical) from "small town" America

Yes Bob, same context. A con man's spiel if you will.

I'm leaving next week for Ireland/Scotland. First trip with this group, so I have no previous travel bag. Curious what the regulation size is. Thanks

I'm sure I read somewhere the measurements for the carry on bag and they were about the same as the Trafalgar bag. I looked under the FAQ on Trafagar's website and they are still saying to use the Trafalgar bag and even have a picture of it. They do give the dimensions as 38 cm length, 36 cm high and 17 cm wide.

The interesting thing is that at the bottom there is a sentence (which I don't recall being there before) which says:
"Please note the Trafalgar bag is not validfor First Class Europe or Breakaway Tours" (italics mine) Is it possible that it is still being given for Cost Saver and non-Europe tours? What do they mean?

Hi luvtotravel

I found you. Hope that you don't mind my interrupting your discussion.
We are going on the Wales and Ireland Tour June 2009. We did the Grand European in June 07.
I wanted to thank you for the tour tale on Wales and Ireland. It is the only one. I have been reading back to when you first made the decision to do the tour(2006?) I have even downloaded the Tour Tales. As well I have been following your discussions concerning optionals etc.
Thanks again for your contribution. I likewise did a tour tale on the Grand European and wasn't sorry that I did. Hopefully it likewise has helped others.

Hi Biotrav,

You've picked a good tour. I really enjoyed it. Actually there is another tour tale by Amber88 but it's listed as "Ireland and Wales" so is harder to find. I got a lot of good info from it before we went. I posted some photos as well.

I read your tour tale of the Grand European which sounded like another great tour--they probably all are.
Wish that more people would post tales, or even know about the Bulletin Board (but that's another topic). I'm now almost finished posting Best of Italy, another long-winded tale.

Hi luvtotravel
Thank you very much for Amber 88's tour tale site. I must read it as soon as possible. Smiler
I am also going to read your Tour Tale on the Best of Italy. There is no such thing as a long-winded tale. The more info the more helpful it is.

Hi Jewel
You have just made my day. Smiler Smiler Smiler You certainly will not regret your decision. It does give you a sample of Western Europe.
We have found Australians to be wonderful travellers. The best thing that we could ask for is a coach full of Australians on our "Wales and Ireland" Tour.
Wow. Only 66 more sleeps. It will go by fast.

YES- I would love to have a TT bag. What country are you in?
We are leaving for Best of Britian in 6 days so I won't get it for the trip, but I kind of collect tote bags. They are handy for so many things.

Just buying into the travel bag discussion: picked up our docs on Friday for the Costsaver European Cavalcade tour leaving on 2 July (can't wait!) and we got the bags plus the travel wallet. It was clear from the address label on the bags that they had been sent along with our docs to our travel agent from Trafalgar. There doesn't seem to be a pattern with the handing out of bags.

My daughter wants to keep hers but I won't use mine as I prefer to use a small backpack when I travel. If anyone who lives in Brisbane wants mine you are welcome to it.
