Hi Everyone....We leave on June 13th for the Irish Whirl tour and we are really excited!! Can anyone give us advice on the best place to exchange U.S. dollars for the Eurodollar if one doesn't want to buy the Trafalgar packets? I know the exchange rate can vary somewhat, so wondered if anyone could give us some advice. Thanks in advance for your help......Sandy

The easiest way to get money is to use ATMs which you'll find everywhere. That's not only the easiest way, but it also gives you the commercial bank exchange rate, which is the best available.
Note, by the way, that the currency is called the "Euro", not the "Eurodollar". Regards, Chris |

Chris, it sounds like Sandy will be carrying American (hard cash) dollars with her, and wants to know where to exchange this cash for Euros.
I came across some americans on my trip who were carrying large sums of US dollars on their person. Personally, I wouldn't recommend this practice, as it is too risky carrying such large sums of money. Sandy, opt for an ATM Card, eg. Visa, Mastercard, etc. much safer and so convenient. When I toured Ireland by car rental last year, I had no difficulty in finding ATM's in just about every city & town, except for the smaller villages. As you will be on a coach tour, and these tours ALWAYS STAY IN TOWNS (this is because its only the towns that have large hotels which can accommodate coach tours), you will have no trouble in finding ATMS. I will go as far as saying you will probably find an ATM within 200 metres of your hotel. |
