I am just like Brenda! Smiler
I personally tend to loose weight while I am away, even though I stuff my face with most of the food I see Big Grin (yes, I love my food! Don't start me on Gelato! Wink ).
But when I return home, that's when the weight starts to pile on.... Frowner

Arebee: Sort of. I'm a bit of a wanderer, born in Scotland where I lived until I was a teenager. Then I spent a year in France before moving to South Africa, where I lived for thirteen years. Married an Afrikaner (highly recommended!) Smiler and headed to Canada for five years and then we moved to the beautiful Pacific Northwest USA, which is a lot like Scotland, where I started from. Ironic, isn't it? Smiler

I eat like a horse while on tour - big breakfast (which I never eat at home) and every other local dish/treat I encounter along the way. No gelato or pastry is safe !!
However, I always loose weight. It is doubtless all the galavanting at a forced-march pace that does it. It's a pity one can't keep up this exercise regime at home, but then, there arn't the same incentives are there ! Wink

Isn't THAT the truth! I am lazy to walk around my neighborhood but I never get tired of walking on vacation, even if it's a place with which I'm familiar. Why is that? When we walk our dog, I will complain loudly upon encountering a little hill, but show me the Acropolis and I'm scrambling up it as if my life depended on it. What is that about?

Caitie... "What is that about?"
You reach the Acropolis and you discover that your dog did not get there before you did, because you left the dog at home! (grin)

I usually end up losing weight, but not intentionally.

I do walk a lot on all my tours, extra, because I enjoy it and as I generally get up very early in the mornings I walk before breakfast. I like to walk around before all the tourists are on the streets, sometimes I find great photo opportunities.

I eat a lot of fruit and vege, drink buckets of water (good thing I have great bladder control), My downfall is gelato and wine. I don't eat pizza or pasta as I have a wheat intolerance so I guess that evens things up, these are the foods that people blame for their weight gain.

I don't think I would worry too much if I did gain some weight on holiday, the main thing is to enjoy yourself and in doing this you can justifiably detract from your healthy eating pattern for the duration of the holiday, unless of course you have a health problem that demands that you must eat healthily.

After all when you get home there is always the treadmill or the exercise bike at the gym !!

All the best
JDee

JDee lucky you for not putting on weight. I pack it on. Even though we can have a bit of exercise whilst overseas, I really need an hours walk to really feel good. Frowner

augusta I love food! Unfortunately being retired we have lunches out etc. and I am a bigger girl than I was 3 years ago. Anyway sitting on a plane I eat everything that comes to me. My son got home from Beijing today, and had a wonderful time, but his back was sore from the beds in China. He suffered a bit on the plane back to Adelaide. luckily he had had a sleep in Singapore in the hotel at the airport.

Nothing worse than a sore back on a flight like that. Good to hear he enjoyed Beijing. Did he see much of the games?

Not a lot. He only had 6 days, and he did a few days of touring, and then joined up with the company he works for and went to approx. 5 events. It is so busy over there!!Ever since he was a little boy he has loved the olympics (like his dad)

I think that some reasons that people who eat everything in sight while on vacation and don't gain weight is a combination of a couple of things...first people are generally walking a lot more while on tour than while at home and second...is portion control. At home it is too easy to dig in for a second or even third helping of something delicious. On a recent river boat cruise I ate three meals a day (hardly ever eat breakfast at home...I know, that's not good) and each meal comprised several courses...no weight gain.
