May be quiet in our neighbourhoods up here Kim because of HiNi. From what I read we've been hit hard in some areas and people are understandably anxious that their children aren't exposed. Thank the powers that be that out littlest grand daughter got her shot the other day and thank my daughter for standing in line with her for three hours. Smiler

Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.

We are going to have an unusually warm evening, 5 to 8C, so we might get more kids. I remember going out in -20C with our kids.
H1N1 is rampant here too. My 25 year old son came home sick with it from work. He went to the local clinic wearing a mask, so he was examined in 15 min instead of waiting 2 hours. He was given Tamiflu but it might have been too late. He is not suffering too much, normal flu symptoms. We have been making lots of chicken soup. So far no one else is sick in the family. All his friends are though and co-workers.

Marie-Louise. Hope your son gets through this with ease and with your chicken soup, he'll be well soon. You know it's called Jewish penicillin Big Grin and we happily give it to the world. Wink

I think it's actually been proven that chicken soup really does help when you're sick, hasn't it? It's the only time I want it and it really does seem to help.

I suspect there will be less trick or treaters out tonight because of H1N1. I'm one of the people who fall in the high-risk group but the lineups are too full of other people so I haven't gone.

Jeannie
A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

Actually, Jeannie, my husband and I went and got the vaccine after our son told us he was sick. He probably was infected on Sat night at a bar watching hockey with his friends, he lives with 3 of them in a house but had been home for supper on Mon and Tues night. DH is in the high risk category and luckily we only had to wait 1.5 hrs, otherwise we would have given up. However, it takes at least 10 days for it to work. This was before we knew of the recent shortage. Son was told to get the vaccine later, in case this wasn't H1N1.
DH, I and 21 year old daughter might have had it at the end of Aug. She came home from Europe quite sick and I developed a very bad chest infection which took me 4 weeks to recuperate from with antibiotics.

Yes, Jeannie, it's full of vitamin C apparently.

I'm also in a high risk group really because of asthma but I'm still waiting for the younger ones to have it. I may in any case be immune to it by now. So, while it doesn't hurt to have the shot, I'm more anxious that my other grandkids get it. We also may have had it when we came home from Mexico. Terribly ill, especially DH, but no-one tested. All that our doctors said at the time was this is a true influenza.

Marie-Louise: This is the way we were, and it took two loads of antibiotics and finally a RX codeine-laced tincture to control the coughing. Both DH and I were up for nights with this cough.

I am the only one who developed the chest infection, I did have a cough but was not able to cough, not enough air in the lungs, I was just able to do a feeble neck type of cough. I spent at least 5 nights in an arm chair.
I wonder how Chech's brother is doing.

Hope everyone that is ill gets better soon. I think it's pretty scary since perfectly healthy people are becoming so ill.
We have not had access to the N1H1 vaccine yet in my city. They keep promising soon, soon, but we keep waiting. My daughter got her shot yesterday at a free clinic at NC state in Raleigh so hopefully we won't have to worry about her getting ill. I am a high school librarian and our school has been hit pretty hard but we have been told that schools will not close. The rationale is that the kids won't stay home if schools are closed anyway so it defeats the purpose. I am not considered in a high risk group even though I am around kids all day, so it looks at though I'll have to wait for myself anyway. I did get the seasonal flu shot so hopefully that will offer some proetection.
We'll see about trick or treat tonight. It is supposed to be pretty nice here weather-wise so that generally means a larger number of kids.

Morning Isujim! My body is not liking the time change. Woke up at 4:30 because I went to sleep at 9:45! More coffee and tea for sure for me today and need to fight a nap or I won't sleep tonight.
