Hi All,
How often are you required to produce your passport while on tour we are doing London Paris,Lucerne,Florence and Rome on European Traveller 7 day. After our tour we will be staying in Sorrento for a week, is it necessary to carry your passport with you at all times.

I believe our passports were only required when crossing the Swiss border.

Don't leave town , till you've seen the country.

On our tour through 9 European countries and 5 flight entries enroute to and from New Zealand we only had to produce our passports when arriving from our flights and for the border entry into France from England. We were told however to have our passports handy just incase they were required by border authorities when crossing from country to country in Europe but they did not want to see them at these times. Our passports were collected and kept for the cruise portion to the Greek Islands and they were stamped without out us knowing by Greek and Turkish authorities.

So in general terms, when entering or crossing a border it may be required. While within an area eg Italy, passports should be kept secure eg in a safe etc. So therefore your general day to day living you only require to secure on your person, say some cash and a credit card if needed. I was concerned that i was going to travel europe with mine and my wifes passort and travel documents stuffed down my pants!!!!

Thanks

I do, too, Suegreg. I suggest carrying a copy of the first page with you for ID purposes, should it be necessary, if you choose not to carry your passport. Smiler

Fisho,

If you are planning to use internet cafes in Italy you might want to have your actual passport with you. Although not all cafe operators follow the regulation (or maybe it's not in effect any more) there was a requirement that customers for computer internet use produce a passport.

Another place where you could be asked for your passport is in a casino, especially if you have won a big jackpot. Smiler

I prefer to keep my passport on me at all times and I keep a photocopy of the photo page in the lining of my suitcase.

We prefer to keep our passports with us at all times for security as it is a very valuable wee book. We did the 'tourist thing' and paid 2 euro and had it stamped in Monaco and Leitchenstein as they are not stamped anywhere else except France, Greece and Turkey.

I'm not certain about this, however, isn't it recommended that you carry your passport with you at all times?

My niece, who was cycling in South America, spent a couple of nights in jail because she did not have her passport on her when requested to show her passport.

You can imagine her parents response when they asked her why they had not heard from her and she said. "Oh well I have been out of range because I was in jail".

That was a hard lesson to learn. I bet she always carries your passport with her in the furure.

Your Passport should be carried on your body at all times, what method you choose to carry it is up to you.

We like to take a copy of our passports and keep it as an email attachment.

That way, if everything is lost we can still access a copy of our passport in our email account. We've never had to use it yet, but it is there, just incase.

I think the only times we had to show our passports were entering France, UK to EU, and Switzerland, exiting the EU. I can't remember if Switzerland to Italy they wanted to see them but maybe not because we had an Italian bus and driver, so I think they let it go that time.

I want to go on another trip!
