We have a 28 year old daughter and a 27 year old son - just over a year apart! Eeker So in the words of Gordon Ramsay - having babies (not the babies part) "DONE"! Big Grin My husband is 56, I am 54. We started travelling for our 25th wedding anniversary and have been having BIG trips about every two years since - got the bug.

Yes, the rentals do keep us busy - cleaning between tenants (although they say they have cleaned, they are often not up to my standard), painting, tidying grounds, administration etc. We have 5 rentals at the moment (three of them in another town - Queenstown - two hours drive away), so it is good just working part time now. Then there are the childrens houses - in fact hubby is around at our son's home at the moment, helping him with some renovations. Roll Eyes Ah well, it keeps us young! Wink

Thank you Missie, I hope you too soon enough will be blessed with little ones, they sure keep one busy, don't know how your friend keeps up with 32!

How do you find time to read the BB, Jewel?

Well....Don't tell anyone Wink I sometimes sneak in when I am at work Eeker. Seriously though, I begin work at 6am Mon - Fri so I get home in the early afternoon. Reading this BB has kept me sane through a couple of very trialling months this year Smiler (work related).
To everyone who has shared - Thank you, as we don't get to meet each other face to face, it is nice to get a fuller picture of all of you. You all seem so busy and can still find time to help others, amazing, my hat is off to you all.
Anyway, gotta go, college today !!My study area is natural therapies (hence the advise re Bach Remedies) Smiler

Cheers

Thought I would add my 2 cents worth and fill in a few of the blanks about myself.
My husband and I have been married for 26 years and are empty-nesters (finally). We knew on our first date that this was going to work out just fine. We had gone roller skating and it didn't take my husband long to find out I had never skated before.
Wham! Right in the kisser...The poor guy was trying to catch me as I was going down and I nailed him a good one right in the mouth. I remember him mumbling something about watching too much roller derby(very popular back than)and than suggesting we just go for a drive somewhere instead. After taking me home, he said he'd call and we would go out again. I thought this wasn't to be,not after I clobbered him on our first date. Boy, was I surprised and pleased when he called me the next day. We've been together ever since...
Our 2 children are grown with their own families now. We have 3 beautiful grandchildren with the 4th on the way. We are fortunate that we all live nearby, so see each other often.
Now that our children are grown, I am able to travel more, and do so as often as possible. My husband isn't always able to join me, so I have in the past year gone to France and Ireland by myself, and am planning on going to Greece this fall. Being a bit shy, this has challenged me to become more outgoing, and independent.

Making every second count.

That reminds me of our early days too. We hadn't long started dating and went to a Christmas Party at my boss' home. I was only 17 and wasn't experienced with the evil drink. Being nervous, as we were the first to arrive, I over indulged and later in the evening was sick all over my new boyfriend's (now husband) pride and joy - his car. Later on (two cars later) I crashed his car. We did get married, and have been so for 31 years now. It must be LOVE!!! Big Grin

Oh I do remember the roller derby days here in Australia back in the sixties, they used to perform in Sydney at a place in Rushcutters Bay, cannot for the life of me remember the name of it, they used to have concerts there also. Ronnie Rains was my favourite.

kitchenwench, I told my husband that you had been married 26 years, as we also have been, and that you had 3 grandchildren and another on the way. He said we are not doing well as none of our 3 kids are married and we have no grandchildren. Two are still at Univ, with 3 more years to go for both and the oldest has not bothered to get himself a "proper" job, he is only doing contract work since they came to him. I am slightly unfair as he applied to a few but he is too choosy, I would like him to get a proper job with a slightly higher salary so he could move out.
My husband and I have retired early and are trying to enjoy it but the kids get in the way. I am 60 used to work in research which was fascinating until I hit a dead end project, managed to get married and soon thereafter pregnant so I could get out of that situation. I had 3 kids in quick succession, then moved from Montreal, a fairly cosmopolitan city to non cosmopolitan Calgary. The scenery is beautiful here. We bought 2 apartment buildings which we sold before the prices skyrocketed but we are doing all right. I did not enjoy dealing with the troublesome tenants but the good ones were a joy.

Hi all, really enjoying hearing about all your lives - funny how you develop impressions of what people are like through their words. Thought I'd add a bit about myself.

I'm a 45 year old Preshool Teacher with a dughter just turned 18!(Lots of angst in my house as I adjust to the fact that she is now an "adult" and have to let her make her own decisions). We always talked about going to Europe after she completes her HSC so that is what we are planning. She is doing a gap year project somewhere in a UK or Ireland Boarding School for 11 months next year (placement not confirmed yet) and I will meet up with her during UK Summer school hols and we are going on TT Europe tour.

Never been there before and have been avidly reading all your posts and storing lots of information away. Thank you all for your wonderful contributions.

I know what you mean Jewel ~ the BB also provides me "normality" whilst my husband and I find ourselves in the middle of a labour dispute with one of our country's biggest Trade Unions, SACTU. We have already sold our house in case they close our business down. It's not easy to fight the big boys/fat cats...
Your study field sounds interesting. You should tell us more. Smiler

Dalene - I hope you're not on your own, and that you have support in that conflict.

Mallee ~ so far we are on our own. Traumatic times for us and our workers whom we are respresenting in this dispute. We came before enormous realities, one of which we are drawing up CV's this week and guess what you will read on my computer???

dalene: If you're planning to come this way, let me know and I'll do what I can to help. I'm very sorry about this. I can't imagine the pain and sorrow you and your husband are going through.
