Just remembered a site I have used in the past and it might be helpful to others when in the UK. Go to www.walkit.com

This site will let you enter a starting point and ending point and give you walking instructions as well as how much time it will take and a detailed map. Thought this might be useful especially to some of the new comers.

When I was in Munich - not on a tour - I joined a free walking tour.
It was very informative and the guides are young students/back-packers etc. and work for tips. Tours are conducted in different languages. I looked up the cost of other working tours and my guide was just great so I tipped him the cost of a paid tour. Other just tipped a couple of euros. It was great as my husband was at a trade show and I was able just to join in the tour with everyone else.
They also run tous in other cities - their website is www.neweuropetours.eu
If you enjoy walking it is a great way to look at the cities and learn lots on the way.
