Hi all. I have been keeping an eye on the weather in Paris and London for the last couple of weeks. Out of the last 15 days, London has had rain on 8 of them and Paris has had rain on 9 out of fifteen days. Should I be taking a raincoat, an umbrella or both. I know this has been discussed before but I would appreciate some current feedback.

According to my son over there, you should think about an inflatable boat !!

It is ok for it to rain when you are not there.

The weather looks much better for the next ten days in London (2 out of 10 with some rain). If you see blue sky in London, you are lucky!

Always bring an umbrella to London.

Aussie Sue: I've been watching the Paris temps, too, since I'll be there in a couple of weeks (Woohoo!!!!). In the next ten days, rain is only forecast once. Personally I love the rain and was delighted when we had a lovely thundershower here today after a couple of weeks of unrelenting heat. Don't worry about a little rain! It'll be refreshing. You'll be in Paris!!! I would just pack a very lightweight hooded rain jacket. Umbrellas get in people's eyes.

Aussie Sue: Take an umbrella with you. I have been to London 3 times on Trafalgar tours and the first time it was raining while travelling to the hotel from the airport the others great weather. No way you can be sure so an umbrella is a must. Don't let the weather deter you from doing what you plan on doing. Having lived in BC Canada after the first yr. I just did what I wanted and to heck with the weather. Remember you only get to go around once so don't let a little thing like rain ruin your plans. Purvis

If you have a lightweight, shower proof jacket then take that. I usually take a small fold up umbrella but, like Caitie said, there are places in London like Oxford St where it's impossible to use one safely. I doubt you'll even notice the weather, you'll be too busy concentrating on fun things!

Here in Oregon, where it rains a lot, the locals tend not to use umbrellas just so they have hands free to go about their business. We can't let the rain interfere with daily life or we'd get nothing done. You can always tell an Oregonian by his hooded rain jacket.

like Caitie and her countrymen/women, we brits don't allow the weather to impede us in any way - if we did, we would get nowt done!!
It must be said however, that we are experiencing the most miserable August for years, but, being the UK, this can change in an instant - four seasons in one day!!
No-one should EVER tour the UK without a brolly/plastic mac - at ANY time of year!

Aussie Sue ~ Please do not take an umbrella, they are lethal in crowded areas. A showerproof jacket is ideal. I have one that has a thin lining & folds up into next to nothing. They are also good to use as extra warmth if the weather is very cool or windy

I often stand under my fold up umbrella to take happy snaps as my little camera does not like the rain. I just use my common sense and don’t put it up in crowded areas. I wear a hooded jacket or poncho for just wandering around.

Four seasons in one day - sounds like a Crowded House song!!

I know it, I grew up in the North West of England, I am surprised though that this is the weather in August. I remember my summer holidays were July and August and the weather was blissful as we dawdled along the promenade at Blackpool.

I will bring some sunshine when I arrive on September 3!!

Good to see everyone getting their priorities right umbrellas and rain coats but what about the most important part shoes.
If my feet get wet that's it for me I'm miserable. Where I live athletic shoes are the normal foorware with mesh to breathe due to the hot and humid weather. If it rains you just wear thongs. We were lucky with our tours in that we got away with athletic types of shoes as to buy waterproof shoes was big dollars for one trip.
